Are you sure about that? GM told me the price was a limiting factor in not bidding this year

Coin flip between all teams that provide venue declarations that fulfill the standard. Price comes into play from the 3rd round on starting at 12k, then 18k, then 24k. So if one team pays the money and the other doesn't they get the automatic bid. If both teams pay then they flip a coin.

    Interesting hire for the Menace

Hmm. That is an awfully padded resume for a PDL coach.
I wonder if this signing is any indication about plans to possibly move up (finally)? Perhaps in light of the deal MLS and USLPro are working on? As much as I'd love to go NASL, I don't see it happening.
Or maybe he is just using PDL to build head coach experience...
Always happy for this kind of news.

I guess it's possible he wasn't retained by the Fire and is looking for a job in 2013 until he finds something in MLS (because with his resume, you have to imagine he can get a scouting or personnel job in MLS again), but it is a big name for an MLS team to hire. Bigger than Calloway for sure.

He already was a head coach in the MLS with the Burn for 2 1/2 seasons, so I'd be surprised if it really was to get more experience. I'm tempted to believe the possibility of a move up, but I'm guessing it's more of just a settling point for him.

I'm hoping for a possible move up in '14. With a potential team in Milwaukee and teams in Chicago and KC, you could have a good base for midwest expansion.

There's zero signs in a move up. The more time goes on, the more I believe that this hiring was to get a guy who could/would just focus on the PDL team in hopes of returning us to being the force of the division, who wouldn't have to worry about the rest of the organization. As for Jeffries, I think this just fits what he wants to be doing right now, while not having to really relocate his life too much. In fact, my guess is that a move up is the last thing Jeffries would want to be a part of.
