I spent some time breaking out Akrons's attendance averages for the days of the week. Friday is the best day despite competing against HS football http://akronsportsnow.com/soccer-thrives-under-akrons-friday-night-lights/
Two marks from September 7: Valparaiso @ UCSB - 3,479 Houston Baptist @ San Diego State - 2,212 (new record)
Wake @ Clemson - 6188 Granted attendance was free so I am not sure what they were counting.... It was First Friday so the parade seemed too end At Historic Riggs Field which was unveiled as I. M. Ibramim Stadium
Numbers from Maryland so far (3 matches) 8/26 against Louisville [before classes started, lots of rain] - 3,003 8/31 against UCLA [ESPN3, good amount of campus promotion] - 6,562 9/2 against Cal [some more rain] - 3,255 Three match average: 4273. This number will take a tumble after Tuesday (vs. UMBC)
Great turnouts. Hopefully Akron will have 5K or more for each of its games this weekend against USF and St Johns.
Terps average after four home matches is 3,891 following an attendance of 2,742 for the match against UMBC on Tuesday.
3034 at Akron vs St. Johns. Disappointing turnout to me as I doubt lots stayed away to watch it on Fox Soccer.
Worst Attendance Ever for Akron Tournament at First Energy StadiumÊhttp://akronsportsnow.com/worst-att...ment-at-cub-cadet-field-first-energy-stadium/
Lobos home attendance so far this year Fri Sep 07, 2012 Attendance: 2975 UAB Fri Sep 14, 2012 Attendance: 4017 Dartmouth Sun Sep 16, 2012 Attendance: 1732 UC Irvine
909 attended the South Dakota School of Mines' first home soccer game ever, against the University of Great Falls, on Saturday. The Hardrockers haven't won a game yet, but for a brand new D-II (I think?) program in South Dakota, 909 seems pretty good, though we'll see how that changes - they didn't list an attendance for the game Sunday, and the next home game isn't until the end of October.
Soccer and the Dakotas are never mentioned in the same sentence, so for a first ever home game the Hardrockers drew quite well.
Where is the love for UConn's attendance? 8/25 St. Francis -- 5,100 (Sell out) 8/31 Dartmouth -- 3,705 9/7 Washington -- 4,902 9/9 Boston University -- 3,166 9/20 Boston College -- 2,648 9/22 St. John's -- 5,100 (Sell out) 9/29 Notre Dame -- 5,100 (Game is already SOLD OUT) Season Attendance Average so far: 4,246
It's a bit late but I found this interesting. Last year Messiah College (D III) drew 16,198 people over nine home games - an average of 1800 per game. As far as Division 1 teams go, They would have finished 14th in average attendance and 15th in total attendance.
1010 at UC Davis 1-0 win over UC Riverside Friday night. That does not compare well against schools with big stadiums, but it is a a sellout at Davis. This was helped by a booster t-shirt giveaway to students and it was the first home game since classes started last week.
UCSB hosted UC Irvine on Friday night with an attendance of 7,822. I believe UCSB currently owns the top two matches of the year. The next 5 out of 6 matches for UCSB are at Harder Stadium. The Fox Soccer match versus Poly on Oct. 19 could be a sellout.
Not college attendance, but worth mentioning the great turn out for MLS's Seattle vs. Portland game a few days ago ... 66,000! Here are the highlights, including some really impressive banners and songs ... http://www.soundersfc.com/media-lib.../10-october/121007-highlights-vs-timbers.aspx ... also, here is an interview of an emotional Seattle Coach Sigi Schmid, where he talks about what this attendance means to him after he saw many years when there were more players at a game than fans, including at UCLA where he used to coach ... http://www.soundersfc.com/media-library/videos/features/2012/10-october/121007-sigi-schmid.aspx
