[JPN-GER] at http://www.justin.tv/pet350ml/popout HT 1-2 I'm late Showing HT replays? ?? 0-1 Germany (Behringer?) crosses from endline box right, curls out to 2m between right post and 6-right. #14 Dzsenifer Marozsan is tightly marked by #13 Rumi Utsugi, lifts right instep for a waist-high volley to center mid-high. ?? 0-2 Germany left corner to 5m just past right post, #13 Celia Okoyino da Mbabi(?) high header to back left corner. You can't teach height ?? 1-2 Japan surge up box arc left as Germany backpedal. #7 Kozue Ando(?) passes inside-out through arc left foot to #9 Nahomi Kawasumi at 11m 6-left. Kawasumi stops ball, repositions slightly inward, then curls a shot into right side netting.
So they're playing with Popp, da Mbabi and Mittag at the same time? Seems weird and I don't think this will work well.
Golazo! Wundertor! Lovely football from japan. Three passes off a short corner and tucked in at the far post.
55' 1-2 Japan header from midfield wide left touch to 27m center, #7 Ando one-touch right flick to box top center, splits two defenders as #9 Kawasumi chases. She gets closed down, Germany clear it over. 56' 2-2 Japan left corner, short? Comes to #9 Kawasumi driving endline to 6-left. Kawasumi backpasses to 9m left post, #17 Yukia Nagasato one-touch left instep through heavy traffic, misses wide right post -- #14 Asuna Tanaka slides in, left outstep volleys it to 2/3 right high as Germany are caught watching.
~57' 2-2 #9 Popp chases a long ball diagonally through Japan's box, #4 Saki Kumagai backshields her. GK gathers. Popp collapses, stays down, holding sternum. Trainers come out, lift Popp by shoulders into a yoga sitting/breathing posture. ~58' 2-2 Germany subs in (2? of 6) #3 Saskia Bartusiak for #20. Popp leaves field (not shown)? ~59' 2-2 Popp OK on sideline, gets permission to re-enter. She's fair game, hit her again
62' 2-2 Japan sustain a couple of free kick/corner kicks in Germany's 1/4. 63' 2-2 Germany subs in (3? of 6) #18 Svenja Huth for #11. 65' 2-2 Midfield control, at about 2/3 pace. Japan has slightly better possession. 66' 2-2 Germany free kick from 40m wide left, into box, (looks like) #1 Kaihori eventually comes to 6-top and catches high.
Remember, Algarve "developmental" rules mandate penalty kicks after all drawn matches No ET. 69' 2-2 Germany drive up box right, cross to 4m center on one hop(?). #1 Kaihori slides down unconvincingly to 3m, palms ball -- hands undershoot, does not catch, ball deflects off fingers and pops up goalward behind her! #4 Kumagai alertly sacrifices body to clear it away like a jumping side-kick.
76' 2-2 #13 Okoyino da Mbabi picks up a loose ball at 35m box right, drives to box top right vs 2 defenders, retreats. Long backpass intercepted, but #15 Saori Ariyoshi fouls OdM. Germany free kick curls past left post, OdM wistfully topples face-down on while running not-through #6 Sakaguchi's back. No call. 78' 2-2 #7 Behringer (or #2 Schmidt) chips a cross from 9m wide right. #9 Popp dives diagonally at 6-top right post, misses but distracts #1 Kaihori -- she sits down and misses it too. Ball continues untouched toward left post! #2 Kinga blasts it out of goal mouth and over. 79' 2-2 Germany right corner, cleared. #9 Popp misses a foot trap at box top right post, Japan run it out.
87' 2-2 #17 Viola Odebrecht slips a pass through box top right to #2 Bianca Schmidt sneaking past the line. #15 Ariyoshi recovers poorly, delivers a not-too-subtle two-handed push to the shoulders. Schmidt sprawls face-down. PK. 88' 2-3 #13 Okoyino da Mbabi right instep to left post low, Kaihori dives right but doesn't reach.
89' 2-3 Japan subs in (? of 6) #19 Megumi Takase for #14 Asuna Tanaka. 90' 3-3 Japan shoots from 15m 6-right, lollipop, #12 Almuth Schult stoops forth and catches knee-high with 3 around her. She fumbles it forward! #17 Yuki Nagasato poaches in her personal space, point-blank right instep under her. 90+1' (of 2') 3-4 Germany chips long from 35m box left to 8m left post. #13 Okoyino da Mbabi tries to flick-volley as #1 Kaihori charges out. Mis-hit volley goes almost straight up, momenta carry da Mbabi in to 3m, Kaihori out to 9m. Ball drops straight down to 5m! da Mbabi recalibrates with back to goal, right foot bicycle-scissors it over her left shoulder and in.
Looks like a Germany boys U-17 team in the stands. 90+2' (of 2') 3-4 Japan drive down box right, Germany defend. FT! Like popcorn in the microwave, nothing for 44 seconds, then pop pop pop fooomp
Sounds like an amazing game! Thanks, Gilmoy, for sharing. If anyone finds highlights online, please do tell.
I wish I yould have seen it. It sounds more like your typical match for third place rather than a final. Unbelievable scoreline, usually neither Germany nor Japan concede that many goals.
Good final. Japan basically threw out the manual for their typical game, and allowed Germany to score a few early goals in ways they would usually stop. Germany then receive a reality check of where they really are right now, watching Japan kick start the passing machine to get the game level again. Then we see both teams lose the plot for an exciting finish . In now typical fashion, Japan looked to dominate the midfield again, but this time they met a team at ease with the tactical demands of how they play, and in turn often found themselves dispossessed or chasing mid-field runners more than usual. Germany still need Laudehr and Kulig, but today they showed promise to a return to being a more fluid footballing side again. Another major point for me was the way in which both teams looked to generate attacks. Neither side tried to force the play into blind alleys just because it was the quickest route to goal. Both teams were happy passing up opportunities for low percentage attempts at goal in favour of the extra pass. Just look at Japan's late equaliser. Even with the GK error, the intelligent patience to the whole move was a quality example of why they are the elite of the elite right now. The defensive errors were unsurprising from both sides featuring constant changes throughout the game, but I would rather applaud both coaches for not giving a crap about killing the game in favour of the end result. You could tell neither team had thought too much about stopping their opponent from playing, and because of this fact the game was the absolute opposite of their amazingly tense WWC encounter. A post WWC grudge match? This most certainly was not .
So... what did I tell you all 2 days ago. ha,ha.. Hat trick for Mbabi and Behringer picks up some kind of MVP trophy at the awards ceremony.
thanks for the answer.. was just curious i though brasil was one of the top female teams in the world []__[]
Who else / what other awards were given?? wow, the penalty awarded to Germany was very very weak. The replay shows she was barely touched. Bad call, changed the game.
No, the tournament MVP was Miyama. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Algarve_Cup http://english.kyodonews.jp/photos/2012/03/145875.html
She was touched OK.....and she seemed to go down very hard. She seemed to know where she was. It is difficult for the referee to ignore the contact when that happens.
Yeah, on the Japanese TV highlights they briefly flashed Behringer holding some kind of large crystal plaque along with the bottom right corner graphic "MVP" mixed in with Japanese phonetic script which I couldn't read. I didn't figure out til later that she being captain was actually holding the tournament trophy where as the little plaque from the shot before of Miyama was the MVP award.
I think you'll find that the trophy Melanie Behringer was holding was the Algarve Cup, in her capacity as German captain. Cheers, JR
