Right! I forgot about the Portland-TFC deal.

Yes, they are. Hence Jay DeMerit at Vancouver.

Toronto used its allocation spot in 2007 to get Conor Casey.

what i think is weird is why don't Canadian NT players go thru an allocation? like Patrice Bernier?

what is good for the US should be the same for Canada ... it is a dual nation league after all. and Canadian college players should be allowed into the draft ... there has to be a few at least as good and deserving as some of the D2 and lower players MLS has had in the draft before.

TFC selected McBride as well -- traded him to Chicago for Chad Barrett. Also DeMerit was selected by vancouver.

TFC just confirmed to me via e-mail that the did NOT trade the allocation spot to Portland...doesn't mean their isn't a handshake agreement in place though. Based on what I know of how yesterday's trade played out I'd suggest that the No 3 pick was what that handshake cost the Timbers -- the trade was reported to only be for allocation up until Monday-Tuesday of this week..

I've always wondered what the specific rationale for these exceptionsare. Is it basically trying to give a silent advantage to the Canadian clubs to offset other issues? MLS being too lazy to recognize the different applications?

Hunter Freeman has tweeted that his time in Colorado is over. They were working on a new contract after waiving him. He'll be in Phase 2 of the Re-Entry draft tomorrow for the second-straight year.

Hmmm. This one is interesting to me. I know Kimura had a down year, but wasn't he deemed expendable directly because of Freeman being there? Or is the USL guy y'all picked up at the end of the year in the same position?

LA traded up to the #2 slot in the re-entry draft with Chivas USA for -

LA's first round supplemental pick, an international roster spot and the number 19 position in stage two of the Re-Entry Draft.

So it's safe to say they're after someone on the list.

That seems like steep price to pay so they must really be high on someone on that list. BTW, Matt Doyle is doing a live chat on MLSsoccer.com and will be announcing the picks on there as they happen.

As noted on twitter: Danny Califf was just selected by a team he specifically requested not to be traded to last year.

Maybe TFC thinks he wants to go back to Philly and will use him as trade bait.

    Or he'll just retire.

More to do with TFC than Cananadada. Nothing about Montreal or Vancouver.

JPA and Hartman.... what do they do now?
