Pretty much nothing. He was traded because he had value and TFC had cover for him. Mariner-is-the-devil conspiracy theories literally had nothing to do with it.
looks like Chivas USA is about to bring in a bunch of Chivas de Guad cast-offs. some of the twitter replies are not very optimistic. and people got all up in arms when i suggested Chivas USA was a feeder team where the mothership might dump unwanted players: https://twitter.com/RunnerLuis/status/278966105006026752 Reportedly joining Chelis at Chivas USA: Mario de Luna, Christian Perez, Giovani Casillas, Antonio Rodriguez, Edgar Mejia (via@Cancha_GDL) and from another article: http://deportes.terra.com/futbol/fu...499130c959d8b310VgnVCM4000009bcceb0aRCRD.html Antonio Gallardo
1. Rest of the league is going to be swooping down on remaining CUSA players of value, trying to get them for cheap. Should be a circus. 2. Per SKC, I read that Toluca thought it had Bieler signed this past summer. He was their first target, ahead of Luis Tejada. Any time MLS is getting South American strikers in their prime also targeted by teams in the top half of the Liga MX, it warrants attention.

Not to mention that Chivas might just be in need of more than their regularly-allotted 8 international player slots. Trade bait.

Gives them plenty of center back depth. They have Besler and Collin starting and Songo'o and Olum off the bench. Also, Rosell was used as a center back in Barcelona so he can play there as well. If they manage to get Bieler in as a forward then I think they will have had one of the best off-seasons (on paper) for a club that finished second in total points.
So Ives is reporting the reason we have seen Portland move their way up the allocation order. They are reportedly trying to sign Mix Diskerud. Whoops. I did. They are plenty set at center back. Are you guys planning to play a 6-3-1?
Very interesting. I didn't see that one coming. The report say "they are preparing a move to sign" Mix, which I suppose implies mutual interest. Which would make sense, because why trade in the allocation order unless you had a specific target? Also...they only traded to spot #2. I wonder if this means they have assurances that Toronto will pass on Mix, or if they are going to have to give up a ransom to them as well.
Not officially announced so I'll put it here, but TFC declines option on GK Freddy Hall http://blogs.canoe.ca/reds/
I am guessing that there was a handshake deal that Toronto would let Diskerud fall to Portland at #2 or else the swapping of allocation spots (the #1 and #2 spot) would have been part of yesterday's Johnson/Kocic for Bendik/#3 overall SuperDraft pick/allocation trade. It is sort of like other handshake deals (Union had somewhat similar ones in their post-Expansion Draft deals in late 2010 in which they traded for Califf (rights held by Houston) and Seitz (RSL) - as part of those deals, there were handshake deals that the Union would not pick players from those 2 teams in the Expansion Draft).
Are the three teams in Canada even eligible for allocation of a former USMNT player who comes to MLS from abroad?
