I didn't feel like putting this in the old thread, as it certainly carries over to next year, but happening right now, the Denver Broncos are introducing Peyton Manning as their quarterback. John Elway: "We're thrilled he's elected to play for the Denver Broncos. We think it's a great situation. He's a guy who ... is a hall of famer. My goal is to make Peyton the best quarterback that's ever played the game, and he's got that with the football he's got left." Peyton Manning came to Indianapolis in 1998. He's been in the NFL for 14 years. The Broncos will un-retire their #18 jersey.
Broncos fans seem to be split on how they're receiving Peyton. Personally I don't like the move. Especially since Tebow-mania is still fresh in everyone's minds. Regardless of what you think of Tebow, he electrified whole state of Colorado. Sad to see that go. And if Peyton has more injury problems, who's going to be their backup?
Exactly. I don't think Tim wants to be a backup. Why the hell (other than financial reasons) would Denver get rid of Tebow for an aging player with a history of injuries? Denver was awful last year, until Tebow started playing. Did their management forget the "we want Tebow" chants? Something doesn't add up.
Tim Tebow is a hell of an athlete. Tim Tebow is a hell of a good leader. Tim Tebow is not an NFL quarterback. I was continually dumbfounded by the awful defensive play calling against him late in games. It was like the DC of the teams he beat became useless in the 4th quarter and overtime. If everyone played him the way the Lions played him he may have eeked out 3 or 4 wins at best. Josh McDaniels wanted him in Denver. John Fox and John Elway do not. As far as him staying or going, if Denver is going to build their team around Manning they need another pocket passer as a backup. Someone better than Curtis Painter though.
As a person who worships at the altar of Peyton and one who lived in the Cleveland area long enough to loathe the Broncos, today went something like this for me:
My thoughts on the Tebow situation is that the league will figure him out. Everyone ran the Wild Cat for a season but the league figured it out. That's what head coaches/coordinators get paid millions of dollars to do. If he can develop his passing skills then he has a long term place in the NFL but until then teams will copy what the Bills did against him.
Every team said the same thing after they had 3 or 4 games worth of film on him. It didn't stop him from carrying the Broncos into the playoffs and beating the Steelers. There's a big difference from scheming against QB options and actually tackling a strong 245 lb guy for no gain.
Tim Tebow traded to the New York Jets for a 4th round draft pick. The New York media is going to crucify the poor kid. Pun intended.
My first thought was on the field it could work. If that defense can get back to it's dominate ways. Control the clock on offense and play good defense. Off the field good luck in NY
NY seems an odd place to trade for Tebow. I figured he's end up in Jax. Sanchez has a shaky hold on the starting QB job so this doesn't help him. Also the Saints got hammered today for bountygate with Payton suspended for a year and the loss of 2 second round picks.
Not so fast my friends..... Tebow to Jets may not happen due to contractual complications... @AdamSchefter Filed to ESPN (1): Denver and Jets have encountered hangup in language in Tim Tebow's contract that could nullify trade. 21 Mar 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamSchefter Tim Tebow has $5 million worth of recapture language, meaning Jets would have to pay back money to Denver. Jets might be unwilling. Complex. 21 Mar 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamSchefter Jets-Broncos agreed to Tim Tebow trade before Denver asked NY to pay back portion of bonuses and salary already paid to Tebow. No deal yet.
Deal is done. Wholesome Tebow now plays in front of the one of the most depraved, classless sets of fans in the NFL. Too harsh?
I can't find the article but it was from several years ago. It was about 2 small helmet manufacturers. They had built and designed helmets that where infinity safer for the players and reduced concussion but some large percentage. They were hoping the NFL would see the value and allow players the option to wear their helmets. Outside of the legal reasons they couldn't beause of their deal with Riddell, the NFL had no interest in the helmets. It was a pretty compelling article about how the NFL really didn't view concussions as a huge issue.
This morning on the drive in they were talking to Mangenious about the Tebow deal and he brought up some good points. If NY really uses him the way(s) he would be effective it's a great deal for them. Mangini said they should use him to run the wildcat (Tony Sparano ran the wildcat at Miami with Ronnie Brown), use him as the punt protector (teams will have to worry about the fake more) and other special situations. If he really wants to help the team and really doesn't have an ego AND the team is willing to risk him in those situations, it's a good move. If he is going to be their starting QB...good luck.
Final score: New England 24 Jets 21 Enterprising reporter: "Coach Ryan, at any point in today's game did you consider using Tebow?" Rex Ryan: "!()(*&@^#!)E_~!_!^^$E(#@__!! YOU!!!!!!"

One time at a Crew game, I gave Ming Mev a $20 bill as advanced payment on some ticket to some game down the road. Beer in one hand, $20 bill in the other, Mevin holds the twenty up to his face and said to it, "Don't spend this on beer!" That is how I see myself right now saying "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
Official Statement from the Cleveland Browns: "The Cleveland Browns would like to extend their deepest condolences to the entire Modell family."
