Well for one, he has a torn ligament in his thumb, throwing hand. And for two, have you really not seen what that young qb can do??? He can show a flash or two a game and then he cannot read the blitz. That's what he can do, which is pretty much nothing. He's been given plenty of time to show what he can do.
I meant TJ Yates. I know he's had starts in the past. And he's not very good. But you're read the book on Matt Schaub many times. It's not like some team is going to decide to give Houston something in a trade for him after watching him start the final two games.
TJ is Schaub light so I doubt we will see much difference between the two aside from one can run and the other can't. But who knows what Kubiak taught him because he has stop running altogether. If you look at the last two seasons.
I gotcha, but I disagree that no one will give the Texans anything for Schaub. This league is known for overpaying for qbs, and overpaying for marginal qbs. Schaub had some really good years and would do good on a lot of teams, hell, he even did good here for quite some years. TJ, if he couldn't beat out Keenum for the job then what does he really have to offer.
I will buy you a beer if they are able to trade him with his cap hit. Remember you can't absorb some of the cap hit in the NFL. He will be cut.
I agree that he'll most likely be cut and signed by someone else, and for the same reasons you state, but the texans had the option of Schaub or Yates. Schaub gives them a small chance that a team could trade for him, someone like the Vikings who desperately need to fill that spot but may not have a chance at a qb this draft, at least not one who they grade high enough, or start Yates who has no value. Why start Yates????
At this point, Yates has more trade value that Schaub with his age and salary. Teams know that the Texans will have to cut him. You start Yates in the hope that he shows something, anything to warrant keeping him on the roster.
If we win 1 of the two we're guaranteed one of the first two picks. I can't see us beating Denver and then beating Tennessee in Tennessee. But who knows with this team. They'd in both and they could be drafting 8th or so making it an even bigger failure for the season.
