For me, (and many others) Ono was the most gifted japanese footballer ever "created". But Football is much more than just raw technique.
Well, he's also one of the most successful Japanese players ever (could be only discussed between him and Hasebe)...
You mentioned that in another thread, and I wondered why you chose Hasebe over Nakata, since one would think a Serie A and a Coppa D'Italia would be enough to give him that particular accolade; or even Ono, given he's won an European competition. Is it the Asian Cup that does it for you?
Yes, it matters. Also achievements in Japan, Asia, NT. If you look at Nakata's silverware, aside from those two in Italy, there isn't much (if anything). Now look at Ono's or Hesebe's collection. Nakata was more influential but not much achieved. That's all.
I see. I find Ono to have been more influential regarding his team's success, even bearing in mind Hasebe has been played out of position, often. It is. For a player in his position, it is also defending, pass precision, stamina and vision; Ono did have it all. Or did he lack any tactical awareness?
Ono seems to be settling pretty well over in the A League considering it's pretty physical league over here. As someone else on this board said to me the other day, he must be the best "marquee" signing for the current A League season even if he started off really slow. ADP has his rare flashes of brilliance but Sydney FC are struggling... not so sure about Heskey over at the Jets.
I hope he stays here in Australia for another season, an absolute hero in western Sydney and generally well liked by the football public. Was always expecting him to be the best marquee, didn't understand why fans were complaining when they missed out on Ballack.
http://de.soccerway.com/teams/australia/west-sydney-fc/21585/ Ono scored a PK in a 2-1 win over Wellington. Team has recorded 9th win in a row and is 5 points clear at the top.
He could be on his way to an MVP award if the Wanderers finish this off, I wonder if he has a serious chance. Wow, what a run for them thats 9 WINS in a row setting a new record for the league and sky rocketing them into 1st place, remarkable.
And it's their first ever season too. Unfortunately he got subbed off with am injury of some sort though.

I hope WSW will win the A-League title in their debut season. for them and Shinji Ono it's quite an impressive feat. and with marquee signing Ono playing a crucial role would make like the best import of the season.
Ono might miss the rest of the season with injury after that Sydney derby, don't know the latest reports on him but not looking good.
