    What did I say?

It's too early for him. Completely caught off-guard on the goal.

4-0 Arsenal. First: Adkins, maybe it's time to re-think about your tactics.
Second: poor Yoshida, i hope he won't be slammed by his new fans.
    Hoogveld is terrible.

    Welcome to the EPL Yoshida.

Let's be honest here. I doubt that Yoshida is unfamiliar with these kinds of scores. After all he did play for VVV.

Different team same results, whatever club team Yoshida plays for they get smashed by the opposition. Arsenal have already scored 2 goals since Yoshida entered, and 2 own goals. What a travesty, as long as he doesnt score on his own team he probably will secure a starting job, its that bad.

    They scored 3

2nd and 4th he had no control over, but the 3rd was definitely his fault

it's an away game against Arsenal... then is Gotoku Sakai's career over since they lost 6-1 at home against Bayern? Relax

Yes I meant to say Arsenal scored 2 goals without the assistance of a Southampton player, but there were 3 goals total(1 being an own goal).

Just hope in the coming games Yoshida can provide some stability back there. I dont think of Yoshida as a rock defensively by any means, but for Southampton you really cant do worse than what they started with. It will be a season just like VVV where theyre near the bottom fighting to stay afloat, I just hope Yoshida avoids embarrassment. To me that would be a successful season for him, baby steps.

Its not an encouraging sign that when Yoshida gets subbed on Arsenal goes on a scoring frenzy.

I think there is a little bit of a difference in the two games..Sakai is a sideback which has far less responsibility than a centerback defensively...and one could argue Bayern are a better team than Arsenal.

    To be fair to Yoshida,

Southampton's fullbacks are getting beat almost every time they come up against an Arsenal winger.

Hooiveld was injured and Yoshida is the only natural CB on the bench.

I cant watch the game on TV, theyre showing Man U vs Wigan and Chelsea vs QPR...but Southampton vs Arsenal will be up next so I will see how Yoshida fared against Arsenal knowing that it will be a train wreck...I just want to see how bad the defense really is as well as assess Yoshida's ability....until college football starts.

Thats another thing, hes had maybe 1 week to familiarize himself with teammates and tactics and gets thrown to the wolves against one of the stronger teams in the EPL. However...Southampton was only down 1 when Yoshida game in, again, not a good sign for the team or him.

What kind of standards are you setting when you're happy that Yoshida did not score an own goal?

Of course it's not entirely Yoshida's fault.

One of the problems with Southampton is that there is a huge gap between the midfield and the defense. Arsenal exploited that space throughout the match.

Judging by the identical scores of the two teams that got slaughtered the talent discrepancy between the teams is about the same..but Stuttgart like Southampton are in the relegation zone to start the season and winless.

Yes I watched the rest of the match.

Southampton were doing really well when they were in possession and pushed up high on the pitch. The problem is that the players that are most vital in this sort of situation when defending, fullbacks and midfielders, are too slow. Once Southampton lost the ball, it was usually only Fonte and Yoshida back defending. The fullbacks are too slow and there is no defensive cover from the midfield which leaves huge gaps on the outside and in between the midfield and the defense.

On the bright side...there really is nowhere to go but up from here on out... That is, until they meet Man City, Man Utd, and Chelsea. Each of those teams could go double digits if Southampton plays like they did today vs them.

I don't want Yoshida to take beatings week after week but are you that concerned about Southampton ? They can go down as long as Yoshida plays a decent game.

He showed his pace vs Gervinho today, that's promising if the team get a hold of themselves and start playing as a block.
