It seemed a shame to have this year left incomplete, so I am trying to finish it up. I ran into an interesting issue with Jimmy Maurer when compiling the clean sheets. He was subbed on in the 32nd minute of a scoreless game and kept a clean sheet the rest of the way. @prowazekii does not appear to have counted it, but I feel like it should (since we count ones where the player is subbed off in the second half). Thoughts?

I went back and completed the accounting for the year. In the end, 99 players scored 368 goals, smashing the old record. We also had 17 keepers who kept 86 clean sheets. The individual honors go to Jozy Altidore with 31 goals and Tim Howard with 13 clean sheets.

The players played in leagues in 31 countries on 5 of the 6 inhabited continents (there must be an American somewhere in Africa, right? Liberia, maybe?).

New goalscorers added since the last update:

    • John Brooks

In case anyone is interested, here is the source data used for these tables. It is just a list of goals or clean sheets. The player and club columns are shortened versions of the real names with non-ascii characters removed for fast and easy typing. The opponent name is (unfortunately) not very consistent.

On a side note, let me know if you would prefer the goal and clean sheet tables to be wrapped in quotes so they auto-collapse like these lists. It makes the post shorter, but there isn't much point to reading the thread if you aren't interested in the tables....

I was fiddling with a visualization package, and came up with this. Not perfect, but pretty cool for about 30 minutes work.

Cool! Looks like what ESPN FC uses (used?) to visualize their SPI chances of WC qualifying.
