He has two younger brothers, right? j/k... I think you are definitely right though... talents like his Andy are few and far between around these parts.
Does anyone know if Andy's training at Anderlecht has been as a right back or wide midfielder? Both? Where do you think you would expect to see him play if he does in this short loan?
Since someone recently said there is no real player "training" overseas, it's always a trial ... along with the speculation that we'll lose Hamid in the summer transfer (possibly) Steven Goff @SoccerInsider D.C. United GK Joe Willis leaves today for 10-day training with Sunderland. Andrew Dykstra also in England for offseason work #dcu
Hopefully Andy's loan teaches him how to not cross it to the keeper every single time like he did this last season.
Hopefully it teaches him how much he misses DC and how hard he will need to work there to get to the high levels of Europe, pushing him to become an even more dominant player who -- after a few more years and at least one DCU MLS Cup -- will move to Europe a seasoned player providing the team that gave him his start a monstrous transfer fee.
D.C. United @dcunited #DCU to make a major player personnel announcement tomorrow at 11am. https://twitter.com/dcunited/status/288784428627542018
Did we reach an agreement to terms with John Thorrington?! But seriously, hopefully this is something to get excited about! We'll hear about the year's schedule at noon tomorrow as well.
Goff seems to think that it is the Rafael loan. I hope he is wrong. In no way is that a a major move.
QPR is sending Ryan Nelson on loan to United through the end of his contract in June, so that he can become acclimated to the league again before being a coach haha.
I kind of hope this is the rafael loan but it can't be. I can't imagine DC making an announcement to get people ready for that announcement.
That would really annoy me. It doesn't seem like a major player personnel move. Perhaps it will turn out to be one once Rafael Gladiator takes over the league and pounds in 15 goals, but until that happens it'll be a just another of many offseason moves.
Craig is very good and his opinion isn't just a mouthpiece for the front office like a certain someone.
but what is goff's incentive for trying to play this down. wouldn't he be better serving his masters by offering something tasty instead of "hold your horses, it's probably this dude none of you care about"
I guess by last post didn't really have to do with the discussion about the announcement tomorrow. I was just giving my opinion on the two over the past season.
He plays it down and then when they release bigger news everyone gets excited? I mean, he loses some credibility as an insider, but the club provides him with information down the line to make up for the temporary loss of reputation. Just a guess.
In draft talk anyone now much about Kemp (sp?) from Maryland? Seems to be some talk may go after him.
would they really put a teaser out to get us all excited for the fact that najar is leaving? that would being a new level of masochism to being a DCU fan... i thought we were past that.
OK, looking at the Goff tweets and DCU's situation -- I'm going with a trade -- Salihi to Portland for Kris Boyd and all sorts of financial shenanigans.
THE flying Ngwenya?!! Returning to DC I am going to spend the rest of the night filling ballons for this party.
Its possible the major announcement could be a combination of smaller moves. Perhaps the team formally announcing the signing of Thorrington, the renewed loan of Raphael Augusto, and the new loan deal for El Gladiator will all be officially confirmed by DCU. That doesn't really seem like a major move though. I think Kris Boyd would do well here but his salary is outrageous and unless Portland is willing to pay a major chunk of his salary, I don't think Boyd will produce enough for the money he is being payed. How about Kenny Cooper for Salihi and the #17 pick? Another possibility is that DCU has hired somebody new in the player scouting/analysis/administration field(Paul Mariner anyone?).
