First results of the weekend are in:

Hollywood United 1-0 Santa Ana Winds

Got a text from the general manager (I couldn't go) - said it was a decent game. Will have more info later.

Sonoma County Sol 3 and Bay Area Ambassadors FC 1: Both seemed to use the Dutch setup of 4-3-3. Bay Area had some good midfield action, but the Sol had very good direct wing attacks. Bay Area seemed to rely on their very fast center striker to break lose, but was contained by a very good defensive 1 v 1 play. Bay Area's goal resulted from a penalty kick. Both teams are going to be very competitive in league play.

Awesome road trip for Hollywood this weekend: 4-0 win over Sonoma on Saturday, 3-0 over Sacramento on Sunday. Three wins in four games, top o' the league :D

We've got Real SJ at home on Saturday.

correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like so far there's been no 0-0 draws, or any draws for that matter in the western conference

Cool, good to know what the process is (even if we're only finding out like halfway through).

As the article says, it looks like the Flash have the upper hand given their good start and the teams they have left to play, but one or two results could change that pretty quickly.

At first glance, 7 seemed like a weird number of games to use, but I guess if the thinking was to have as many games as possible count before the deadline, then it makes sense.

It was interesting to read about each team's USOC history as well. I didn't realize so many NPSL teams had qualified (and progressed) in the cup.

Hollywood United vs Real San Jose today, kickoff at 2:00pm at Crenshaw High School. I'm heading off to the game in about an hour (I'm day game staff for Hollywood).

I'm hoping for goals; we beat Sonoma 4-0, and Sonoma beat San Jose 8-0, which means we should win 12-0 ;)

So, I was joking before about us winning 12-0.

    We actually won 11-0.

First half hat-trick from Brent Whitfield, 4-0 up at half time. Real San Jose utterly collapsed in the second half, and we ran in seven unanswered goals. Two for Andy Contreras, two for Jose Miranda - and we even missed a PK so it should have been twelve!

    1 Brent Whitfield, 3rd min
    2 Emmanuel Rodriguez, 11th min
    3 Brent Whitfield, 22nd min
    4 Brent Whitfield, 34th min
    5 Jose Miranda, 48th min
    6 Edwin Acevedo, 68th min
    7 Andy Contreras, 71st min
    8 Andy Contreras, 77th min
    9 Jose Miranda, 81st min
    10 Rene Corona, 84th min
    11 Esaul Mendoza, 86th min

    Full report coming soon...

Nice! I've played against the Hollywood squad a few times in CSL and know how punishing they can be.

    Grats.

I see that, despite moving stadiums, the Rattlers still have the worst pitch in the Southwest. Did they get all the potatoes out of the ground before the game started?

You know I was hoping to find a review or video since I saw that someone was recording the game with a professional camera, I'd even checked channel 4 on cox since they re broadcast Socker's games sometimes or at least the highlights, so far I haven't found anything
