It is that time of year again with players going out to get a pay raise and with the cap going up 6m as well as the cap floor going to 48m some of the UFA/RFA might of picked the right time. Here is link to UFA http://www.capgeek.com/free_agents.php?year_id=2011&team_id=-1&position_id=-1&fa_type_id=2 Link for RFA http://www.capgeek.com/free_agents.php?year_id=2011&team_id=-1&position_id=-1&fa_type_id=1
Moved a post to the Leaf thread as it was better suited there. That RFA list reads like a who's who of player's any team would want to sign - too bad they all come with more than a money price tag. The UFA list is a bunch of old dudes, that are not particularly popular in the cap-era NHL. Outside of Brad Richards the pickings are pretty slim.
There is a lot of 30 plus players on the UFA market. I guess it is good for teams looking for stop-gap players as they are waiting for some of their younger players develop into NHL-er. I think it would be good market if your looking for some help on the back-end.
Teams can always lineup for Jagr....i would give him $775,000. He can play the PP so he doen't have to skate much.
Carter off to Columbus for 1st, 3rd and Voracek http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369793 Regehr asked to waive no-trade clause to move to Sabers http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369789
Flyers pretty much gut the core of their team, Carter I could of seen to make room for the Ilya contract to fit in but Richards for Schenn and Simmons just mind boggling. I guess they have very high hopes on JVR being one of the leaders on the team after a good season.
Huge moves for Philadelphia. Really shocking stuff. Richards was, I'm sure everyone thought, one of the few untouchables in hockey... guess not. Philly must have high hopes for Giroux and JVR to lead the offence in the future. Brayden Schenn is going to be a hell of a player though. They've actually circumvented the process of rebuilding by doing it a few years early. Perhaps this is a wise decision. Also, don't these trades kind of work out for all three teams? I'm stoked to see Richards in a Kings jersey though.
I didn't think PHI was all that bad in need of rebuild. I think everyone could see Carter moving, but Richards as well. Kyper on Sportsnet seems to think they're going to go after Brad Richards...do they have the money?
A few moves done in the draft so far -Brian Campbell to Florida for Rostislav Olesz - Troy Brouwer to Washington for pick #26 - Brent Burns + '12 2nd for Setoguchi, Coyle, '11 1st (#28) - Liles to Leafs for Boston's 2012 2nd Round Pick - Gilbert Brule and a 2011 5th rounder to Los Angeles for Ryan Smyth - Lightning re-sign Eric Brewer (4 yrs, $4M cap hit)
Canucks lock up Bieksa after a good play-off run, 4.6m hit a year is a fair price I say value wise. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=370169
That's the difficulty by signing players a the draft...it's an open market and most of the time, the highest bidder wins. That's why they say you can't build a team through the draft.
Ehrhoff's rights traded to NYI for a 4th round pick. Hearing that he will want around 6m. Not worth it, but if if NYI are willing to overpay.........
Jagr to PHI for 3.3m....crazy. PHI also pick up Talbot Timmy Brent to CAR....for 750,000. Not sure why Burkie didn't want to sign him for that amount. JS to COL...not sure the amount. But for 2 years. No news on Richards yet. And the Leafs have done NOTHING!!!!
Richards will make a decision today. He said it's down to about 3-4 teams. Probably Toronto, NYR, PHI...Maybe BUF? Richards is in Mississauga, Ontario with his agent and Brian Burke is visiting the troops and isn't in the country. GM's made the visit to see Richards and had presentations for him...i bet all the other GM's were in attendance.
60m for 9 years...wonder if they did one of the typical front end loaded contracts. There's no way he will play until 40.
Richards earnings per year...one of those "Cap Circumvention" type deals. Richards said he wanted to play with Tortorella again.
