Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2012/03/whitecaps-cut-nguyen.html So.. Do we like Nguyen? Do we want him? He's kind of a mystery to me. Intriguing though. Has a couple US Caps and I just like having more Americans on the team. It gives a little more legitimacy to the league when we have American players in our American league. BUT is he good? Decent? Curious to know what you guys think
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. All he does is Nguyen! Sign him. Im biased, I have Vietnamese soccer loving inlaws. I do think he is worth a shot for sure though. I don't know if its an indictment on him that he was cut from Vancouver as much as number crunch. They have a ton of good forwards.
My initial reaction is to say no, simply because we have plenty of talent at midfield. However, if he could play an advanced midfielder/withdrawn forward role I might be interested.
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. I think some due diligence is needed before signing him. Cutting a player that used a National team allocation should raise some questions. Was he just not good enough or is there more going on here?
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. I always thought he had a reputation as a bit of a headcase. Does he play out wide at all or just an ACM type role?
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. Kid was a star as a freshman at Indiana... Member of the US U-17, U-18, U-20 (...while still in High School), U-23, and Senior National Teams. PSV Eindhoven signed him right out of IU. ...and he can play left mid, in my opinion. If the Revs are left with a choice between da Luz and Nguyen, I choose Nguyen.
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. Philadelphia Union will probably not be invited back to play Belen in a friendly. http://www.brotherlygame.com/2012/3...ing-opposing-players-and-referees-fight-belen Looked like Farfan went with the crazy wreckless challenge to start things. Carroll gets into it as well before backing away. The video editing makes it difficult to tell what happened between the tackle and the handbags. I'm sure Philly has their own story.
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. No Nguay on Nguyen--his own hometown team of Dallas wouldn't even take him on minimum salary back when it was barely enough to live off of. People keep getting fooled by a resume from long, long ago.
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. It's good to see that the Philly players act like most of the city's classless fans.
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. Go ask Buzz Carrick about this. FCD did want Nguyen... But MLS would only offer him a five-year deal at league minimum, and then they wanted to put him in a weighted lottery. Nguyen wanted to play in Dallas. Just don't see much of a downside here. Low risk, potentially high reward.
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. Looked like the player marking Farfan kept elbowing him in the head and that's what made him hot and go for that reckless tackle... and I suspect things started heating up from there on both sides... editing does seem rather suspicious, but doesn't surprise me one bit that a Philly/Nowak team wouldn't be able to keep cool... although it looked like things didn't escalate out of control at least... Philly has played a physical brand of soccer from the get-go.
Re: Whitecaps waive Lee Nguyen. To be clear, he wasn't a NT allocation (VAN is still at the top of that list). It was a weighted lottery used for college-age players who would otherwise be eligible for the SuperDraft. Only a few teams bothered to enter the lottery. VAN has since brought in Sebastien LeToux and Etienne Barbara, so there is no room for him.
When you do things right, when your ownership cares, when your organization is run knowledgeably ... in only your third year as franchise, you sign your third home-grown player. Obviously, none of the above was regarding the Revs.
You look at the MLS website and it's like there's a party about to start with exciting new DPs, CCL matches, new stadiums about to open or about to be built, and we're not invited to any of it. Instead, our coach has the "toughest job in MLS history" in a salary-capped league.
You know it's coming ... "WE thought WE did a terrific job cobbling the roster together this year, but injuries and bad breaks have us on our heels again after these first ten difficult games, 60% of which were on the road. We need to try harder. No, we are GOING to try REALLY HARD, and fully intend to make the playoffs and win MLS CUP, because you're the best fans in all of MLS. LETS MAKE SOME NOISE! [Insert crazy Howard Dean scream here YEAAHHHHH]." Cough. Single clap, followed by several more slow, halfhearted claps.
is it weird to say that im actually half excited for the revs this season? I think the team is much improved and we have some pretty decent story lines for 2012. -I think Stephen McCarthy is gonna have a big year with a move to CB -We have a great midfield.. I cant wait to see what becomes of Rowe -I'm still unhappy with the situation at forward. We need a DP -Benny actually looks excited for this year -Will Fagundez continue to grow? Dont get me wrong.. I still hate the Revs, and its out of love I hate them. But maybe Jay Heaps will have a pretty decent year. Nowhere to go other than up but at least I'm not hoping the revs lose every game in hopes of a high draft pic like i did last year.
Just a reminder, quarterfinals of the CCL start up tomorrow with Seattle (vs Mexico's Santos Laguna) and Toronto (vs Galaxy) hosting the first legs. LA @ TFC is on FSC at 8, Seattle's match on at 10 on FSC, both live.
