Tinkering continues on the Golden Boot. The final bracket continues. With 32 teams again I have increased the group stage and reduced the bracket to 8 teams.

Golden Boot is a game where just goals and assists count. Teams play head to head and score a point for each goal or assist from their players who play that gameweek. It starts with group stages and ends in a bracket. . Eventually I will have a google doc on this.

    Recap of rules

    *Some changes from last season.

First Group Stage – Boot 1 with 32 Teams playing

    Group A
8 teams - 1st and 2nd in all rocks leagues to draft
    Group B
8 teams - 3rd and 4th in all rocks leagues to draft
    Group C
8 teams - 5th and 6th in all rocks leagues to draft
    Group D
8 teams - 7th and 8th in all rocks leagues to draft.

Total of 7 gameweeks to complete. Gameweeks 1-7
Every team plays each other once. Lowest team in table is eliminated – the boot

First Group Stage – Boot 2 with 28 Teams playing

Remaining 7 teams each play each other once again. Lowest team in table is eliminated. Schedule based on format rankings.
Total of 7 gameweeks to complete. Based on odd number of teams. Each week one team will have a bye week. Gameweeks 8-14

Second Group Stage – Boot 1 with 24 Teams Playing

At this point 24 teams will be remaining.

Those 24 teams will be broken into 4 groups of 6. Each team plays each other once. Lowest team in table is eliminated – the boot
Total of 5 games weeks. Gameweeks 15-19

Second Group Stage – Boot 2 with 20 Teams Playing

Remaining 5 teams in each group each play each other once again. Lowest team in table is eliminated. Schedule based on format rankings.
Total of 5 gameweeks to complete. Based on odd number of teams. Each week one team will have a bye week. Gameweeks 20-24

Third Group Stage – 16 Teams Playing

At this point 16 teams will be remaining.

Those 16 teams will be broken into 4 groups of 4. Each team plays each other twice. Lowest two teams in each group is eliminated – the boot
Total of 6 games weeks. Gameweeks 25-30

Fourth Stage Round of 8 to Final

The remaining 8 teams will be ranked based on total points then goals and then assists. The 8 teams will be placed in a bracket. Top seeded team playest lowest seeded team. Each match will have a home and away game. If there is a tie then away points (goals and assists will govern)
    Total of 6 Gameweeks 31-36

If less than 10 matches are played in any gameweek that gameweek will not count. The schedule allows for two cancelled gameweeks as it stands now.

I've emailed you Tarv, but I would be worried that you are going to lose too many weeks if you require at least 10 matches. This will happen too often - certainly more than twice.

I think 8 games would be a decent cut off. Anyone actually know how many GW had less than 8 matches? It still might be more than two.

Personally, I'd go as low as 5 or 6 matches and only cancel a week if it's a real emergency. I'd be curious to see what the count is, but I'd think 7 and 8 matches is pretty common when we get into rescheduling games for other competitions. The other side of canceling these weeks is that it then gives a serious advantage to owners with players on those teams that are having to reschedule (often the stronger, more attacking sides) as they'll then get a pass in these weeks and the benefit of a double gameweek down the road. I suppose you could address that by saying that we're only going to count a team's first game in a double gameweek, but otherwise the postponement of matches strikes me as just a standard part of the game.

I didn't realize that goals and assist count for the same single point each. I'd think goals should count for more say three points for a goal and one for an assist. I'm not just saying that because it would have meant I'd have tied this week. ;)

goals out weigh assists if there is a tie for any group. I look at those breakdowns when they occur. So more goals is always better. I used to track goals and assists for all competitors in the table but have gone back to Clan's original way to just add them up.

The 3rd and 4th round pickers follow up a week with 23 Goals and Assists with just 14. Lee's Summit and Cassville are lucky to take their goalless days to a draw. Yellowcake pats himself on the back for the Jarvis pick.

With atleast 3 teams having Rooney on board there was some crazy numbers. Dynamo Teso without Rooney had a heartbreak weekend as Dzeko's 4 go to a third match without a win. Their total goals and assists number put them in a good position in case of a tie breaker. In off the post had to use all 5 Rooney points plus a little help from Petrov to stave off Keyser Soze and their solid midfield of Kuyt, Lampard and Toure. Vegas Virgins and Sureywood Rangers are keeping company in the winless column. One will have to make a move with but 4 weeks to go for the first Boot that will eliminate the lowest team each Group.

    FC Springfield 8 v 7 Dynamo Teso
Vegas Virgins 1 v 7 Ram It In There!
FC St. Pauli 3 v 1 Sureywood Rangers
In off the Post 6 v 5 Keyser Soze Wanderers

London St. Germain with a rocking 10 hands Yellowcake their first loss and remain the unbeaten team in the group. With a midfield of Nasri, Young and Toure it looks like there will be a constant stream of assists. Cassville United and Bigger Boat also brought in big scores. Bigger Boat had the Ashely Young Factor as Cassville needed 4 players to get his six points. Five teams in this group are with one win or less in this group. Three Gameweeks down and 1 to go.

    Rockville Gunners 3 v 4 Lee's Summit Rangers
London St. Germain 10 v 3 Yellowcake Phantoms
    Pittsadelphia FC 1 v 6 BiggerBoat
    Aviators 1 v 6 Cassville United 27

Klasnic with the late winner in more ways than one. Lees Summit picked up Klasnic on Friday, and then he scored a late consolation in the Liverpool/Bolton match and in one swoop took the three points from Rockville! Nice job Mike!

need to get this posted as it is fresh in the mind and as I am choking with laughter reading the Rothman's update. doo doo doo

    Back to the Golden Boot

    Week 3 Group C

Last week no one had more than a single win. Now all 4 winners of this gameweek have 2 wins. 12 potential points to go. FC Weynouth dropped the 1000 pound anvil of 120 lb Ashley Young on Sasha Juniors Supah Frank to put down 5 to Frankie's 2. Cold Dog Soup sporting the staritng front line of Man City are either driving on cruise control or with one foot on the steering wheel. Pork Soda on the other hand had to earn those 5 points with a witches brew of Cabaye, Holt and Mata with a Lampard base. But the most amazing of all is a score of 10 by FC Touchline who looks to be on the verge of leading the league with a frontline of Di Santo and Rodallega. Oh yeah, then there is Dempsey, and some guy called Ashley Young. Oh wait there it is again... Cabaye.

    Sasha Juniors 2 v 5 FC Weymouth
    ColdDogSoup FC 7 v 3 Kopite Juniors
    Pork Soda 5 v 2 Jedi Padawans
    FC Touchline Ban 10 v 6 Wewunwunce

Top Shelf gets their third win with the minimum of margins. It took just 2 points. Against any other team it would have been a draw or a loss. Thiku Mariners also remain undefeated. The only big score in the Group was Park Lane with Dzeko and a handfull of midfielder and Bosingwa to add to the rocking score.

    blechs_dawgs 2 v 3 ChrisSuttonsSlippers
