Here is the new thread Draft Friday and Saturday Bruins have 9th pick in 1st round(Thanks again Leafs) I am hoping Ryan Murphy can fall to them at #9. A strong d-man who can score on the PP and score period. 26-53-79 was his line. Had a good U-18 WC for Canada 4-9-13 Free agency July 1st Bruins Free Agents UFA Recchi Kaberle Hnidy Ryder RFA Marchand I would re-sign Kaberle and Ryder honestly to 2 yr deals each. And Machand is not going anywhere. Will be around 12 million under the cap.
Recchi has retired, so he's off the list. Hnidy can be a good depth guy, if the money is right and the pieces are there. Kaberle is going to either come at a huge discount or I'd let him go; for a puck-moving defenseman, he neither defends well enough nor moves the puck well enough. I'm interested to see what the plan is for the money. The NHL cap is tied to revenue, so it's going to be higher this year. With Recchi, Kaberle, and Savard (probably) off the books, like you said it's probably going to be about $12m, before resigning our guys.
Recchi is not off the list till he officially retires. The NHL Cap will be 64 million. Right now the Bruins have $52.2 million in salaries and 2.6 in bonuses earned. Giving them about 10 million to have going into FA. You also have Krecji, Kelly,Pevs, Campbell, Rask coming up on FA after next season. I do not expect the Bruins to be big players in the FA market. not with those guys deals coming up. Savard deal is now back on the cap until October or if he retires. I honestly do not see Savard retiring and giving up the money. I can see him not retiring till 2014-15 when his salary drops to 1.5 million. With his situation I do not see him giving up 18.5 million over due the next 3 years.
Dave Goucher commented on T&R Tuesday morning that Savard would still get his money, from 'insurance', even if he retires due to injury
Even so I still do not think he retires before the end on 2011/2012 season. I think he waits a yr from now to see how he feels.
Schedule released today. Bruins open season vs Philly on 10/6. Game against Vancouver 1/7 A good chance to start out hot 13 of 17 at home. http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebyseason.htm?team=BOS
Agree, IIRC, in an interview during the cup finals, Savard said that he was planning on coming back and felt that he could be a contributor.
Chiarelli, on the Sports Hub, said to not look for major player aquisition. Excluding a few 3rd-4th line moves, expect the same team to defend the Cup.
Bruins use the #9 pick they got from Toronto (from the trade for He Who Shall Not Be Named) to pick Dougie Hamilton. Good big, tough defenseman, very athletic, and is definitely a Bruins-type player. Still has a bit of growing to do physically, and obviously needs to learn the NHL game, but I think that after a year or two in Providence, he should be able to be a solid contributor to the B's D down the road.
Dougie Hamilton is a stud, and I doubt he spends a minute playing for Providence. Here's a kid who's 6-5, 195, and will eventually add 25 pounds to his frame. He's an excellent skater, he plays the point on Niagara's power play, and he led his team in scoring in the playoffs, ahead of even Ryan Strome, a forward that Islanders picked 5th overall. He likes to jump into the rush, and he's got a developing physical game... he's not always consistently physical, but when he is, he's devastating. Most mocks I saw had him going in the Top 5 or 6. The picks of Strome, Zibanejad, and Schiefele pushed him down a bit. There's a lot to like, here. He's got all the tools to be a #1 defenseman, and he's there's very little bust potential. Bruins got really, really lucky tonight. Likely back to Niagara this year, and right into the big club's lineup for 2011-12. One more draft pick of note from Day 2 of the draft... 40. Alexander Khokhlachev, LW, Windsor (OHL) - Undersized, highly-skilled, Russian forward who just finished his rookie season in the OHL. The only draft eligible player in the OHL who outscored him was Gabriel Landeskog, who was drafted 2nd overall. He also is said to play a North American style where he goes hard to the net and is willing to get his nose dirty along the boards. So, why did he slip? In part, because he's Russian. Russians tend to slip these days because many of them simply sign with the KHL at the first sign of adversity. Khokhlachev has said repeatedly that his dream is to play in the best league in the world. Koko's a dynamic skater who's also an excellent finisher and a very good playmaker. He's also got a bit of North American edge to his game. He's not afraid to get his nose dirty, and on the highlight reels, he scores a ton of goals in close. He's not afraid to dig along the boards and get stuck in. However, he's also not particularly good at it. Needs to get significantly stronger. Those who don't like him say he relies on his speed too much and that he wore down the longer the OHL season went and lost too many one-on-one battles. Joe Corvo traded to the Bs for a 4th round pick. He played in all 82 games for the Canes this year with an 11-29-40 line. Strangely enough, Kaberle just signed with the Canes, 3 years, $12.75m.
Now all the Bruins need to do is put in a offer sheet to Stamkos I would give up 4 first round picks for him in a heartbeat

Wow, seeing Recchi on the Ice gave me chills. Bright spots last night were definitely Marchand and Seguin.
Its a damn good thing they have picked it up a bit lately, it was getting really frustrating watching them, almost REVS like lack of scoring!
Yes they could. That line to me has everything you want in a line. They can play defense, score, hit and not afraid to mix it up if need be
Well they will have one of the following out there Chara,Ferance,Boychuk or McQuaid. And you know McQuaid isn't afraid to mix it up with anyone. I would hate Marchand if he was on any other team. But I am glad he is on the Bruins.
Watching Bruins vs Columbus. Some irony the bluejackets have rev colors and the bruins have crew colors.
