The Malaysian owners spotted an opportunity to take a soccer team and make money from it. It could have been Swindon, Barnsley, Norwich, any team. and that is the point, they don't really care where it is located it just has to make them money. And what happens if it doesn't make them money? Portsmouth.
I mean, it makes sense, but I also like tradition. However, changing colors wouldn't make me quit following the team... but then again, the nickname of the squad probably is based on their kit color, which makes things iffy, but then again team names change too... and since it's just their nickname, they could probably call them the Cardiff City Cards and that would be even cooler...
Any Cleveland Cavs fans here? How many times have they changed their logo and colors over the last two decades?
So we would be cool with a new owner who is a Buckeye alum coming in, buying the Crew and changing the team color from Yellow to Red like Chicago and TFC? This is all hypothetical since we know the re-branding will be a complete overhaul when they move the team to Las Vegas...
I'd take silver or grey with red trim but no way in hell would i want a primary red color. Better dead than red.
Villa changed their logo when Lerner bought the team. I personally like it better, as it's less cluttered to me. The fans didn't revolt. The team is still in the Premiership (at least for one more year). Seems like a bit of Chicken Little going on to me.
Hey if the team stays here I am fine with a logo change. If the team got a super rich owner that brings in Messi-like talent and won all the time, our team colors could be all red, light purple and electric green and our name changed to the Columbus Colonoscopy (jersey sponsor Charmin) and our logo changed to an anime monkey crapping soccer balls and I would come to every game with a smile on my face. Hopefully it won't come to that. . .
I always think that come to this message board to talk soccer but I might be more a little more honest with myself and say its for the humor and some soccer talk.
Changing the logo and completely changing the team's colors are two different things though. Chelsea, Juve, Barca, and Tottenham have all updated their logo in the past ten years. No big deal, since the traditional kit colors remained.
You totally forgot the French lecturing everyone on how much they think know better than anyone else. Can't you tell I like French bashing? Must be the German blood coursing through my veins.
Given the end of the '11-'12 season, and since the Euros start in two days, I think it's time for a new thread.
