Yes, the Phoenix got 20,000 in Auckland, so that indicates they would get that in a derby between Auckland and Wellington, probably less against other teams, maybe 12-15,000. I dont think the knights was marketed well over there, the colours and logo were pretty dull too, so for example have a team called Sporting Auckland, and with strong colours of red and black vertical stripes, black shorts, you would get more public interest.
Red and black are Canterbury colours, so wouldn't be the best option. Auckland has being tried and failed, no need to go back for now. Canterbury/Christchurch if there must be a second NZ team. 20,000 in a one off exhibition match, doesn't translate to actual crowds week in week out. Would prefer Western Sydney and Wollongong as the next teams though. NSW has a third of the Australian population so the number of teams isn't an issue.
Hopefully they keep coming back. What made the crowd figure even better was the fact that it was pissing down rain for alot of the first half.
Black and blue then, something that stands out. I think five is too many teams in NSW, Id prefer to see Sydney FC relocate out west, bring in a wollongong team, 4 teams max for NSW. Melbourne Heart would have been better off going for black and red, the white and red looks to barbershop on them, change the shorts to black maybe.
lol! Really? No offence but the color of the uniform will bring an extra 5K fans into the stadium? I am not sure about that, buy hey, I could be wrong.
Heh. My Sounders seem to prove that color/uniform don't have a noticeable effect. If we can continue to pack in 36k fans a game despite having easily some of the worst uniforms in not only MLS, but the world, I'd have to say colors/uniforms don't play a significant role in bringing in fans. Well, an appreciable number, that is.
Another week, another team other than the Victory leading the week's attendance. I'm not sure if that has happened in two consecutive weeks since the first season when the Roar and SFC were regularly beating them. However, while Brisbane and the Victory had good weeks, Adelaide, Central Coast, and Wellington were off their averages, even if Wellington's 20k is factored out. However, this week was still a good week from a historical perspective. The season is on the verge of becoming the 2nd best based on the AAAQ method and is already 2nd best based on average and barely trails behind 2008/2009 in the median. If it stands out more for the public notice's, then anythings possible. I remember that Knights strip as being pretty non descript and drab. The Phoenix probably realised this and created a striking bold looking strip, cant say I like the design of their emblem but, very ugly and shoddy looking.
The first phoenix kit was horrid: mostly black with a bit of yellow on the fringes. It wasn't really their fault considering the uniformities in the A-league templates for all clubs until 09/10. I love their kit now though, probably my favourite in the league.
Yes I was so relieved when we started being more individual, the strips mostly are coming along nicely, I just hope we dont follow the NRL's path and radically change the clubs traditional strip alot, as afair few of their clubs do. The idea in the beginning I think was to promote unity with all the clubs having the same template, and a good idea in some ways, but it was also very boring, it looked like star trek had come to play football.
NZ expansion is a must for A-League, very similar to US and Canada situation. But the problem lies in AFC: They strongly oppose the very idea of having foreign teams in the league, let alone teams from another confederation. A year or two ago there were problems with keeping the Nux' A-League license, so I guess the messenger for a hypothetical Christchurch team will be shot at the spot.
It's not really a must for A-league. A second Sydney team would provide more benefits to the league than a team in Christchurch. On another note, Sydney are playing Brisbane at St George. Is this a signal that they are possibly looking to move away from the SFS? Sydney does have a lot of national league standard rectangular stadiums to choose from.
No, some twat's playing a gig on our pitch. Caverns and 15-20k, SFS is still probably the least worst.
I believe this week is SFC's "neutral ground" games. The rest of their games are at SFS and each team is supposed to have one or two "neutral ground" games this season. There also appears to be an Eminem concert at SFS on the 2nd and 4th, so perhaps that factored into why SFC is playing two neutral ground games instead of one.
The regional game is at Campbelltown, we're playing Kogarah because what do you imagine the SFS pitch is going to be like on Saturday?
Campbelltown counts as regional? Sure, it's getting towards the outer suburbs but is it really regional?
What is the attendance of the game between Melbourne Heart and Wellington Phoenix? It does not look more than 1000 present.
I thought it was too low to advertiser. I finally found it: 2951. If it is not the lowest crowd of the season, it is probably next to the lowest.
