In the olympic trials last February, Schuster was the 4th seed entering the 9-game round robin competition. He finished 8-1 in first-place after the round-robin.

Also based on the results at these olympics this team seems to be pretty good (by USA curling standards) apart from the ability to make big shots under pressure.

So I don't think the qualifying format is flawed.

At least it wasn't a choke. A great second-to-last shot but they just left too much work for themselves in the 10th end.

The difference being that Real Salt Lake aren't going to be representing the US in the World Cup.

D Mc's last shot in the 7th end that gave the Danes 3 points wasn't a choke? You said the US had too much to make up. Maybe that's why. Plus she let the Danes steal points in the first two ends. Her draw weight was extremely inconsistent throughout the match.

Yeah, I only got back from work to see the last 2 ends. I meant it wasn't a choke at the finish-line.

What's with CNBC? They said after the Denmark game that they would return to show Canada v France. They never did. Enough with the women's ice hockey. We all know it will be USA v Canada in the final.

I still don't get this game, but several of the girls on team Russia are pretty fit, as is the blonde on the US team. I am a little confused by the scoring system, why would the Russian's throw the last stone out the back on purpose instead of trying to get on the target?

I will say, this does look like it would be really fun to play.

It can be fun to play, but its extremely difficult to become good at it.

Russia threw the last stone out because a scoreless end is better than getting one point. If you score it means you lose the hammer.

OK, US women and Russia are tied 4-4, US women with the hammer in the 10th end. They're doing better today -- can they pull off a win?

Edit to add -- Russian lady's last stone was very good -- McCormick needs to knock it away. The stage is set for another USA Curling Fail... it's on its way... it's good! USA wins a curling match!

The Canada/France match only lasted 8 ends and was already a rout before they got to the 8th.

I didn't think the Russians were very good. But maybe it was just the commentator constantly mentioning that they weren't very good, and that the US needed to go on the oh-fensive.

The same Russian rink beat the same American rink 7-5 at the World Championships last year. McCormick won the year before 7-6 and 9-5 in 2007.

I am trying to watch the Women's game simply for sport. However, after seeing some of the curlers on Japan, Russia, Denmark, or a couple on other teams, I am convinced Playboy needs to do a Women of Curling issue.

qft. I was trying very hard not to comment on how cute the Danish women were (well, except for their skip) in their little curling skirts during the match yesterday.

And according to the vancouver2010.com site, the Russian curling team members are all between the ages of 19 and 23.

One can dream. SI should have done it for this year's Swimsuit Issue.

I've curled and followed curling for a while (lived in North Dakota for a spell) and I've never heard of it happening before.

I'm trying not to be too crass about this, but tonight, that Russian Women's team is playing the team from Japan.

Ivana Benderova vs Hot Asian Chicks on Ice.

I need to go to CostCo for a Kleenex run! :D

It was a good day for both teams. Debbie McCormick (sp?) still struggled, but I was glad to see the Women win their first.

I didn't know Shuster had been benched until I watched the match, but I'm glad they got off the schnide. The Frog skip actually had a shot to salvage the 10th end and win it, but just like Nate Keading against the Jets, the final field goal just came up a tad short.
