This whole year is very time warpish. Young Bulls, old Lakers, Phil Jackson, Marv & Mike, Scottie & Spike Lee exchanging pleasantries. But then I realize it's not '91 when I brush back my (non)hair.
I like him too but didn't think he added much to the NCAA tournament. As long as it's anyone but Doug Collins and Hubie Brown I can deal with it - I like Van Gundy okay but I thought he said something pretty ridiculous the other day when he said Lebron shouldn't get a T for throwing the ball at someone who intentionally fouled him. WTF? Which 5 second rule?
Even though he is a total Lakers hater, I very much like Van Gundy. He brings some added comedy and a friendly villain role to me. However, as you noted, he does have some strong bias that makes him cloud his logic at times. I do not think any of the first round west series will be a cake walk, even for that matter the semis and conference finals.
Btw, while we are on this topic announcers and non game topic, I am soooo sick and tired of seeing all those T-Mobile commercials with D Wade (Get me Outta Here) and Charles Barkley (I Maybe Wrong). I remember I was tired of last year's stupid Kobe and LeBron puppets; a few years ago it was LeBron Sprite commercials with him doing the Kid n Play in a parking structures.
I dunno, everyone seems to think New Orleans is the low seed you want to face if you're in the West and I sort of agree. Then again it's a match-up thing - LA would be more afraid of Portland in particular than any of the low seeds. In the east I Indiana and Philly will be the easier low seeds to handle and I don't think the Knicks have what it takes to challenge Boston (but the problem there is what Boston has done to themselves so who knows). Atlanta has a winning record against Orlando so it's the one series you would think has to be tough but we have to wait and see if Atlanta shows up or repeats last year's embarrassment.
NO really is the only cake walk I can think of and you are correct. Atlanta will probably win 2 games to make it a 6 games series at the most imo.
Might be the rule or it might be fashion, but there aren't very many clearouts for the back-to-basket 1v1 any more. Now it's more for the driver or spot-up shooter.
Just an example of the league adapting and making their game more fun for the fans. I think the NBA is the only pro league to have the rule.
Man - I had no idea that was a rule - didn't Adrian Dantley and Mark Aguirre do this all the time? Two identical players that were traded right before the Pistons won the championship IIRC (entirely possible that I don't RC)
Everybody did back then, although yeah those guys were specialists. Barkley brought fun to the big-ass brigade by facing forward and running.
Stupid Kobe was caught on camera saying a derogatory slur to the referee to offend the gay community. I mean he should know by now that the cameras are all over him and should use better judgment. Come on Kobe. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AsyKRCp1ecSqDor.XeEhojo5nYcB?slug=ap-lakers-bryantslur Edit - Also, as of 1:34pm California time, I have not heard anything about Bynum's conditions. If one of you have any twitter news or latest update, please feel free to post or pm.
Look at my avi. Rooney was suspended for two games because he celebrated the game winning goal and said "What, F-Word What" out loud and the cameraman was in his face. This was BS. In Kobe's case, he made an offensive slur, which to me, is worse. This is legit and not right. While Rooney was celebrating, Kobe was pissed off and it was focused on to a specific person (ref).
http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/110413andrewbynum_mattbarnes_mriresults.html The sound you're hearing is the Lakers fans' ass collectively unclenching.
Haha What a crazy day today with the number 2 all coming down to today. I expect the Lakers to beat Sacramento to take the 2 seed and much rather play NO in the first rounds. If we did not have to win tonight, I wished the Kings would win their last home game in Arco Arena - most likely their last home game. Belgium Guy - yes, my a$$ has unclenched and cheeks feel relieved!
The Kings will go all out tonight. There fans will give Kobe and company HELL! Who knows though...maybe the Lakers will blow them out for old times sake..haha
