”日本をひとつに。世界へふたたび。" I really like that...much better than "all for 2010"

    Japan team for Kirin Cup

    GK:

Kurihara, Hosogai, Makino!, Fujimoto, Inui! have a chance to prove themselves.

Surprised that only 2 FW were chosen, but happy since no Tamada, Okubo (injured), and Yano were chosen.

Fujimoto is having a good season, but I'm surprised/disappointed that Usami wasn't chosen.

    Also no Hirai??? WTF

No Abe? Wouldn't Hashimoto be a tad old for this cycle?

11 midfielders while only 2 forwards. You field the team with just midfielders.

Interesting that the JFA released the info on twitter first.

well, players like Kagawa, Inui, and even Fujimoto are in my eyes more a forward than a midfielder, if we have to choose only one category.

Fujimoto have atleast this season been used more as a wide striker/offensive winger, and Kagawa/Inui were/are both part of the attacking trio of Cerezo.

And we also have Honda, who seems to do just as well in a FW-position than as a MF.

If they wanna continue playstyle from World Cup, they dont need more than 2 strikers. :D

Like Akitod said, its only Hara choosing this team! Surprised to see Honda though as they said he wanna rest because he was injured recently. Must be in much better condition again, also he played last time.

Abe will probably be away trying to sort out his transfer with Leicester. Yano as well at SC Freiburg.

What's the point in taking so many defenders and only two forwards ? It's just friendlies and generally, when you make a change, it's upfront, not on the backline. Anyway. Good to see Fujimoto.

Re: (09.04.10) Friendly: Japan vs. Paraguay [R]

Its partly meant to be a homecoming celebration for the WC heroes. The set of defenders is essentially the same with Konno listed as a mid while Kurihara back in the fold (thought he killed his chances in the Serbia game). The imbalance per se is between the forward and the midfield.

Even if there was a new (foreign) coach the squad would probably be the same as Hara and the rest of the technical committee would have needed to help the (clueless) coach pick the squad.

Endo will probably be the 4th player to reach 100 caps after these friendlies and who would have thought he beat Shunsuke to it.

Nice to see Hosogai getting a look in. Hopefully he'll get a runout to see if he can mix it at international level.

Any chances we'll see some kind of 'changing of the guard' between the two games (ie. a 'homecoming' game for Paraguay, a younger lineup for Guatemala)?

Re: Official 2010 Japanese NT Thread [R] - part IV

A lot of defenders and mids means that maybe the 5-4-1 (Like Ghana played against the USA in the World Cup) will be employed. This is nice because it does slide into the familiar 4-1-4-1 when Japan has the ball. This 5-4-1 is great because it adds that extra defender to shut down crosses and wing play. This is why Ghana beat the USA and nearly beat Uruguay.

Hashimoto is old but you need veterans to get you to a World Cup. Sure, Hashimoto won't be on the 2014 squad in Brazil, but I can see him play a few qualifiers to get Japan there.

I am looking forward to the Japan/Paraguay rematch. And Guatemala sounds good- Sure wish it could have been the USA but right now our federation is getting a new coach and the staff would not be ready for the early september fixtures. Just watch out for Guatemalan hacking.

I am ok with seeing Hashimoto this time because he is in good form so it should be rewarded but if i see him in the qualifiers a year from now, i'll be calling for Zaccheroni's head!!! That is almost as bad as Osim's Hanyu and Yamagishi...

    Morimoto
    Kagawa---Honda---Matsui
    Hosogai---K.Nakamura
    Uchida---Nakazawa---Kurihara---Nagatomo
    Kawashima

glad Kengo is starting. the reports saying we were gonna have Inui & Hosogai holding down the centre were worrying. Not keen on having Kurihara play.

    Camacho---Santa Cruz---Barrios
    Torres---Bella---Ortigoza---Santana
    Da Silva---Alcaraz---Caceras
    Villar

i'm not sure on the specific positions of hte paraguay players but that's what sportsnavi has.
