Tello is ripping it with the Turks...won everything there is to be won over there and has the most assists in the tournament.

Mati might acomplish a similar feat if the Sporting manager knows what he's doing. Our compatriot Pellegrini used Mati in such a way that in his new role his strengths were sacrificed for the good of overall tactics, which is ok, but you will not get the best of him like Bielsa does for example.

Mati is much more dangerous in Chile's 3-1-3-3 than in Villarreal's 4-4-2 where he plays towards one of the sides and advance in classic S.American style with triangulations and paused play...his best matches for Villarreal were the ones where he was placed as a second strker. I think C.Ronaldo and Kaka are going to go insane if Pellegrini plans to make Real Madrid play like that.

In a 3-1-3-3 formation however Mati has a bunch of options to link up with, plus his speed and turn can cause defenders problems in the counter attacks.

    Case study. Chile 1-0 Argentina.

Any player with this kind of talent is allways welcomed. I had seen him a few times in Villareal, and he impressed me then, now seeing this recap with Chile he impressed me even more.

Man he took a beating, and never gave up.
Great touches, great ball control, and great at reading the game.

    Great signing.

i don't know, with villareal he is an average player at best. With the NT, playing in his natural position, he's world class. the argentina game wasn't even his best, he's scored 4 goals so far and set up a bunch more

I agree that he has/had the talent to end up in a big club. But at Besiktas he has won 3 trophies in 2 years, including this past season both the league and the cup. he was also in the ideal 11 in the turkish superliga...maybe he was right in judging his worth as a player (ie not accepting a pay cut)

he has played the champions, inluding this gem against Marseille, and has regained himself a spot on the NT

Matias seems like a great signing for Sporting. Good pick up guys. But other than him, Sportings transfer season seems dead. Are they looking at anyone at the moment?

Bolton have a 10 million Euro offer on the table for Miguel Veloso. Apparently Bolton view on the bid is a "take it or leave it offer".

After the friendly, Sporting really needs to adquire a strong, tall striker.

Derlei is a good player but the main issue at Sporting would continue if he stayed.
Yannick, Liedson and Postiga lack the physical attributes to prevail in aerial ability.
Caicedo or a guy alike should be targetted.

ay ay even tho liedson is skinny but one of his strengths is his aerial ability...liedson is a top class grade A forward especially in the portuguese league, probaly top 3 in the league......sure he does get muscled a lil but he knos how to use his body to a bigger advantage

Yeah, I'm aware of that but he still doesn't prevail in the air.

It's a shame, Sporting have players that have a wonderful chemistry and know how to pass/cross well. They just need a reference in the goal area.

Which is the reason why Sporting are looking into acquired Caicedo from Manchester City.

Regardless if they do not acquire him, I still think Sporting best tandem is Liedson - Postiga at the moment.

I'm getting rather impatient on Sporting's acquisition, or lack of, Felipe Caicedo. I feel like if we don't do something quick, some thieving bastards (i.e. Porto) might snatch him up.

How many striker would they need though. I think they have like 6 or 7 at this point.

Of course I know. I was in shock when Rodriguez bailed for Porto. Falcao doesn't even appear he wants to play in Portugal. He rather play for Zaragoza then Porto....

Anyways, I think Sporting have a much greater chance now in attaining Felipe Caicedo from ManCity in the next few days with the confirmation of Tevez going to City.

Their strikeforce is literally bursting at the seems, and a few people will be shipped away.
