Kenny Cooper of FC Dallas. With Tino losing out here, and with no DCU players in the league Best XI also announced today, this is the first year in recent memory (first year ever? someone with better memory will have to say) that no DCU players have figured in any individual honors.
While Cooper's goal output was impressive, it was really just a return to form from before his injury. I guess one might read into the selection that MLS wanted to avoid the embarrassing situation of having to talk openly about a player with substance abuse problems. I still think Tino's "comeback" was the more impressive of the two, because he returned from so far, figuratively.
Screw MLS. If they had any clue how hard what Tino went thru was this would've been a no brainer. But Tino doesn't need some $50 trophy to remind him of that. He has the love and support of his family and the respect of all his fans.
I'll second Chico. ******** MLS, Tino's comeback was beyond impressive. Sad that they couldn't recognize that, and perhaps give hope to future players dealing with addiction.
MLS doesn't have a drug problem, how can you come back from a "problem" they don't have. Chico is dead right this time, we pull for Santino 24x366, no denial just love.
4th-ed. It's a snub on the part of MLS, one would think the league would want to highlight of someone who fell from grace only to return back from near destruction! Tino is the Comback Kid!
Right, they would then maybe have to spend some time wondering how the only team ever to have people suspended for performance-enhancing drugs suddenly wound up in the championship game for the first time ever, then have to explain how drugs are bad.
