That'd be nice, but I'm thinking, and hoping, that this is a sure sign of things to come next year. If we can keep this group together next year, and maybe add one or two more players, we're set for another Division Title run.
I think it's a case overperforming expectations, and I expect that they will plummet back to earth soon. Unfortunately.
With the Brewers loss, that puts the Stros 4 games back of the Wild Card. The Brew Crew have a much stronger schedule to close out the year too, so that can only help us. Now if only the Cards would hit a skid.
September 12, finals Pirates 0 Astros 6 Brewers 3 Phillies 6 Wildcard standings: Milwaukee 83-64 Houston 80-67 3 games back Philadelphia 80-67 3 games back The Astros are within 3 games! I really hope that this Ike break doesn't affect their hot streak.
They're on a sweet run. What a collapse if the Astros win the wildcard race. The Brewers are playing like crap and the Stros are playing lights out. MLB needs a team like the Stros in the playoffs.
just went final in St. Louis... Cubs 3, Cards 2 StL now 78-68, 4.5 out in wild card race, I guess we passed them yesterday... Oswalt broke J.R. Richard's team record for consecutive scoreless innings (31 innings in 1980) tonight, now at 32 1/3 innings.
They're playing well above expectation. But that's ok, the Cards did that a few years ago and won the Series. Even though he had a slow start to the season, I knew Roy O was going to be fine. I love that guy.
Above expectations or not, the Rockies made it to the World Series with the same kind of hot streak last year. The Brewers haven't been awful, but they aren't playing well enough to stay safe.
I would say that the Astros getting hot at the right time and taking the series would be poetic justice for all those years when they were very good and lost in the first round, as in 1998.
St. Louis is getting beat on Friday night by Pittsburgh 10-0 in the 7th inning. I think the Cards are done. Milwaukee/Philly has been postponed for rain so the Wild Card race is frozen in place.
Wow. Great job moving that Astros Home Game to Milwaukeeagainst the Chicago Cubs. Really had a good home field advantage in Milwaukee that almost took away Zambrano's ability to pitch a no-hitter. Last night there were no games being played in other ballparks that may present less of a home field advantage like: St Louis, San Francisco, Atlanta, DC, or Tampa Bay. Did I mention Arlington? Home to probably thousands of Astros fans. Yeah it wasn't being used last night either.
I have to apologize. My reverse psychologoy of bashing the Astro's the last two weeks through there great run has apparently hurt the feelings of the players, causing them to hide in their shells the last three days. So until I feel otherwise, I will no longer bash the Astros, or talk about them in any light, for they are now not worth talking about.
i think they lost 3 in a row now. i knew it was only a matter of time before the lastros showed up again.
No surprise really, they can't hit beach balls outside the friendly confines of Minute Maid Park. We gotta take the lowly Pirates series to be in a good spot for the wild card. After that the season finishes up at home against the Braves and Reds, and the make-up versus the Cubs. 12 games left and only 4 back of the Mets. Still very much in contention.
Sums it up nicely. You know you have problems when you are swept by the Marlins in front of 100 people
They were playing above expectation before. Now they're regressing to the mean. As it was, they exceeded their BP predictions, so I'm happy for them. Now let's go get a real GM.
No Excuses!! IMO this team had no right to even be mentioned in the Wildcard race... let alone playoff talk with this pitching staff. Break open the wallet tio Drayton!
Ausmus went out in style with a 2-run homer earlier today. It was perfect as he is now officially retired and after the 3-4 minute long ribbing he got in his tribute video The Astros beat the Braves 3-1, finishing in style. I forget who was on 3rd at the time (a scrub) but he made a great diving catch into the Braves dugout to close out the game. Newtex, myself and 3 others went and had a blast. Very quick game, actually. Here's hoping for next year
True, but I don't think there are too many Cali teams interested in an over-the-hill catcher who can't hit worth a damn (yesterday's homerun excluded, of course ) He'd be more useful as a coach
FYP. One of the smartest catchers in the league. Really did his homework and he can teach that to others. He'll be a fine coach....if he isn't lost to surfing, again
