CONGRATS TO LINDSEY & GABARRA: Freedom Receives W-League Accolades By Marc Serber July 31, 2007 The Washington Freedom would like to extend its congratulations to both Lori Lindsey and Jim Gabarra. Today midfielder Lori Lindsey was named to the “2007 W-League All-League Team” and coach Jim Gabarra was selected as a finalist for the W-League Coach of the Year Award. Lindsey, captain extraordinaire, has been the driving force behind the Freedom’s run to the W-league Championship. The midfielder has controlled games from her spot in front of the back four and dictated a fierce Freedom attack, to which she has contributed five goals and eight assist placing her second on the W-League scoring charts. Head coach Jim Gabarra has fashioned a team that not only wins games but plays an attractive style of attacking soccer leading the Freedom to a 14-1-1 record. Of the three coaches nominated for the award, Gabarra is the only one whose team is still alive in post-season play. This season Gabarra has also shown his aptitude for bringing on players that instantly swing the game. The introduction of Rebecca Moros away to Northern Virginia, Jill Porto at home versus the Wildcats, and Tiffany McCarty’s two substitute appearances in Massachusetts were all moves that turned the games on their heads. The other nominees for the 2007 W-League Coach of the Year are Elio Bello, who led the expansion San Diego Sunwaves all the way to the Western Conference title game and Danny Storlien, coach of Central Conference finalist Minnesota Lightning. The winner of the 2007 W-League coach of the year award will be announced this Saturday night at the W- Championship Banquet in Rochester.
