2006 -----------Onstad-------- Waibel--Eddie--Cochrane--Barrett ------------Serioux-------- Mullan--------------Davis ----------DeRo----------- ----Ching-----Moreno--- 2014 ---------Hall--------- Sarkodie-Horst-Taylor-Ashe ---------Clark------------- Driver--------------Davis ---------Boniek-------- Barnes------Bruin It would be close but 2006 DeRo was a beast, Onstad still had it back then. The main weakness was that backline in 06 the 14 backline is stronger IMO.
2014 has more speed and talent so I think they would win, BUT I would have to say 2006 was a much better team (and they have 2 trophies to prove it). For example those Cruyff Barcelona teams of the 1990s were legit. Some of my favorite players and favorite teams of all time, but they would be undone by the dumbass tiki taka-ers of this era. Doesn't mean top to bottom the 90 Barcelona players weren't better footballers.
How about we play more than a single game that matters before we compare them to a historically great MLS team?
I agree, can't draw conclusions on one game. However, what I would say is that the quality of MLS in 2014 is significantly better than it was in 2006. I look around and I see a lot of guys who were okay players 2-3 years ago who can't keep up in MLS now as the league has passed them by. Nothing about their play has changed, simply the quality of the average player in the league has increased. Therefore, I'd be inclined to say that any good team in 2014 would be likely to beat any team from 2006 more often than not.
I agree, but a team like 2006 would find a way to win in any era. Their energy and competitiveness was off the charts.
I think this should be settled in a two-legged aggregate series. 1st leg @ Robertson and 2nd leg @ BBVA
