Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] My girlfriend and I are going to visit Munich in a couple months. I've never seen a match in Europe before and it looks like the only team that is playing home while we are there are 1860 Munchen. I'm pretty excited. Does anyone know if we will have a problem buying tickets at the arena or should we buy them now? Any new news about 1860?
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Shouldn't be any problem getting tickets, but you would be better served asking the denizens here https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1482667 And pour yourself a stiff drink before you start reading about 1860 news.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] 1860 München won't come anywhere near selling out any of their games. However, Unterhaching, Augsburg or Ingolstadt could be alternatives. Especially in Augsburg you might catch a promotion celebration, which should beat everything 1860 has to offer this year. However, for Augsburg you should buy tickets well in advance. Ingolstadt has two Americans on the team of course (Munich to Augsburg should be a bit over half an hour train ride, Ingolstadt slightly longer).
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Agreed with what Alex_K said about getting tickets - will be no problem at all. Aside from when they play one of the regional rivalries, the stadium is usually about 1/3 full, although it's still a really good atmosphere. Which game were you going to be in Munich for? Based on your post I'm guessing you mean the Ingolstadt game on May 8 (or the Fürth game a couple weeks before). Ingolstadt is just up the road so there should be a good contingent of traveling fans for that one and a good overall crowd - there were 31k in attendance last time they played in the Allianz 2 years ago. The Fürth game should be a nice one too since they are also a somewhat local Bavarian rival and had good attendances when they played in Munich in recent years. And like Alex said, if you're willing to take a short trip and it will fit into your schedule, Augsburg is less than one hour away by train, Nürnberg is less than 2 hours, and both teams have home games on the same weekends as 1860 during April/May. But in either of those cases you'll need to get advance tickets to be safe.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Wow, 70,000 fans attended the game "Hertha vs Paderborn" today. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/2-bundesliga/2010-11/28/0/spieltag.html http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...ericht_hertha-bsc-29_sc-paderborn-07-109.html
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Quite impressive. But Berlin is still worse than Hanover when it comes to Erfolgsfans imo, 2nd league or not.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Still, they basically did let people in for free (well, 5 Euros - but you can't even get food for that price at other stadia).
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Well, against Union Berlin 74k fans were in the Olympiastadion. Similarly, the game against Augsburg on the final matchday will also be sold out. Both games' tickets will have been sold at a premium rate, I understand. Without the "Traumkulisse" marketing campaign, a game against Paderborn on a bright Sunday would have drawn something in the 35-45k range, I'd wager.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Well, Hertha came out guns blazing in the first games of this season. I think Berliners really bought into the whole 2nd Bundesliga thing. Dieter Hoeneß excused his ruinous debt-making by claiming that the Berlin public would only accept football at the very highest level. Gunning for Champions League... I think this patently isn't true. I think Berliners can readily identify with a plucky underdog.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] BTW, rather amusing that Arminia Bielefeld was considered the fifth-most likely candidate for promotion in the above poll. Really sad how that club's being crushed by debt. The first Bundesliga's a bright shining success-story. In many ways the most successful European league. The second Bundesliga's rather less so. A mixed picture. 3rd league is okay. And the Regionalligas are a bloody mess. No time for complacency.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Have you met Alex_K ? And I agree with you, where is the help going to come from?
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Yeah. I appreciate his knowledge on the workings of German club football. Who says there's going to be a saviour? According to the sueddeutsche, the club has debts of 27 million. A fair bit due to much too high stadium construction costs, owing to fraud and corruption. Public prosecutors are on the case. The plan is to set up an independent stadium company and turn club debt into equity in that new company. But that's only going to reduce the debt mountain to 21-22 million. And that's an unsustainable amount for a 3rd league club. Relegation being a done deal, since Arminia could no longer field a competitive team following player sales. Sad.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] I was talking about the RLs as a whole....I don't know much about the topics but just popping a question there...
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Augsburg dropped points today. The Bochum vs Hertha match later in the weekend is a huge one. If I had to predict....I bet Bochum catches Augsburg for 2nd at the end and Augsburg miserable luck continues by losing the play-off yet again.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Absolutely. Most important game for both clubs this season (so far). If we win it, it's a BIG step towards promotion.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] It's high time for Bochum to FINALLY lose again, isn't it? Go Hertha!
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] So, barring some kind of epic collapse Hertha will be back in BL 1 next year (where they should be). Congrats to them. Bochum's loss after their huge unbeaten streak has given some hope to chasers like Furth, but its still tough to see anyone catching them. Feels more like the last battle is between Augsburg and Bochum for 2nd/3rd. Augsburg with a decent advantage now being 3 points up and having a vastly superior goal differential. 5 games to play: Bochum @ Ingolstadt @ Paderborn Union Berlin @ Osnabruck Duisburg Augsburg @ Karlsruhe Aachen @ Cottbus FSV Frankfurt @ Hertha Greuther Furth Paderborn @ 1860 Bielefeld @ Oberhausen Dusseldorf Furth has a shot. They get 3 home matches and all their games are quite easy with the exception of away to 1860.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Things are wide open now with Bochum losing Friday and Furth/Aue winning today. Furth 1 point back and Aue 3 points back. Should be an exciting finish.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] I think it will be only fitting that Fürth FINALLY manages to finish 3rd and then lose in the promotion playoffs.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] BTW, who is bankrolling FC Augsburg? I understand they have a pretty generous budget... I'm hoping Aue somehow makes it. We simply need some Eastern representation in the first tier (aside from Hertha). Even if it were such a small-town club as Aue.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Not sure who is bankrolling Augsburg but they had one of the top 5 budgets in the league this season, I think? Luhkay did a good job as coach too. Will be their first time ever in Bundesliga. (unless they have an epic collapse) Bochum's draw to Paderborn leaves it all open for Furth who also has a superior goal differential. But can (somewhat) rivals 1860 bail Bochum out? Aue in deep trouble now with their loss and poor goal differential. Great season for them after just being promoted from BL 3, but it looks like they will fall short of 3rd.
Re: 2010/2011 2nd Bundesliga Thread [R] Augsburg's president is the (former) owner of KiK, he sold his stake in the company though (but he should still be pretty rich of course). Edit: former owner of Takko actually, and minority owner of KiK, but whatever. I wouldn't say Aue are in trouble, as they never really expected promotion.
