Child please. US Soccer messes up the lineup all the time. And player positions when call-ups are announced. I'm well aware of what the semicolons mean, I just don't believe them. I've seen more than enough USMNT games to know they aren't always accurate.

Gyau and Johnson were the two that didn't make the bench.

I like the XI, considering the roster.

I'll be VERY interested to see if JK has Altidore playing high and centrally, or if he tries to shoe-horn Jozy into a flank role with Gomez playing closer to goal. That would be a mistake in my mind, as Jozy is better off at the tip of the "spear." However, I am glad to see an attempt to play both Jozy and Gomez together, a partnership that hasn't had much time together, and rarely in the starting XI.

Like everyone else, I'll be very interested in Gatt, too. I suspected Kljestan might start, but was hoping for Gatt. Time to see what the hype is about.

Both now and for 2014, I'm VERY glad to see Johnson and Chandler as the wing backs. They have the potential to be the best pair of wing backs ever for the US.

    Go USA!!

i think Fabian is wingback and will provide the width, with Williams/Jones/Bradley covering for him when he goes forward

Russia (Fabio Capello): 4-4-2. Most of them started one or both of Euro Group F 10/12 1-0 Portugal, 10/16 1-0 Azerbaijan. Capello experiments:
    - GK #12 Gabulov for #1 Igor Akinfeev
    - DF #22 Yeshchenko plays LB(?), bumping usual LB(?) #23 Kombarov into LM for #20 Viktor Faizulin.
    - WG #26 Smolov for RM #19 Alexander Samedov.

11 Alexander Kerzhakov, 9 Alexander Kokorin
23 Dmitry Kombarov, 7(c) Igor Denisov, 15 Roman Shirokov, 26 Fyodor Smolov
22 Andrei Yeshchenko, 4 Sergei Ignashevich, 14 Vasily Berezutsky, 2 Alexander Anyukov
    12 Vladimir Gabulov

MatchTracker is up. Russia are all #0; Chandler, Gatt, and Williams are #-1 :p

Well that's fine if you think they're inaccurate. I'm not sure why they'd bother trying to state who's in defense/midfield/forward if they don't actually know. Like I said in my edit, even if they line up that way, once the game gets started it'll tend to look more like your lineup anyway.

The only greenhorn is the GK Gabulov. The other guys have been field subs in the run of play.

We're going to see how we stack up in Euro Group F :D

most people called this when he was called up. He is barely playing for a bundesliga 2 team.

Russia has underachieved for years but Capello has them playing really great soccer.

I agree. Do you think Bradley will play defensive to supplement Gomez staying higher or will Gomez track back?

Interesting that our right side has so much pace moving forward and we are keeping Jermaine Jones on that side.

Cool. It's just like ESPN's pre-game. Sometimes their formations are accurate, sometimes not. It doesn't mean there won't be a 4-4-2, I just don't accept it because of US Soccer's tweet. I'll wait to see it on the field.

    Love Alexi's mustache!

Gomez will track back. When he's the loan striker he tracks back.
