Looks like there's a chance Golden Balls will be at the game. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/07/27/las-arena-addresses-beckhams-availability-vs-dallas
Maybe Bruce is planning to have Becks dial into a conference bridge for the game? Maybe a video conference and place the monitor on the sideline? I hope he comes and plays because, no matter what you think of him/his persona, the dude can play and I really enjoy getting to watch him play live.
My prediction is that we will see Brek and Fabian but no Becks... Now that I have posted this, I will be completly wrong and the exact opposite will happen.
No Becks tonight. But, Brek didn't make the bench. That to me is quite surprising. Iwould have been a little surprised if SH just went with the same XI that beat Por and used Brek as a sub, but to not make the bench tells be things are pretty bad behind the scenes.
anyone know if Brek is on the bench and if not, why? I haven't seen any FCD formal mentions and commentators are pretty quiet
yes, I can indeed read but thought that perhaps you might have been mistaken. So very sorry it made you mad enough to be rude.
I come in peace. Now I know you guys have been having a tough season, but I have to say that you guys gave us a pretty good game. So keep your heads up, you'll survive through this. Cheers, H P.S. Try bringing in the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders to do the national anthem for the rest of the year if possible. Just a suggestion.
blah, season pretty much officially done now ... random thoughts ... Seems like Magee is a FCD killer. Jackson (missed an open header) and Ferreira (made several poor passes) were average. Pertuz was awful in the first half. The John for Hedges sub was a bit confusing (Hedges was solid, but I understand that a change on the back four needed to be done and he and John are so alike that SH might have wanted to keep a more mobile CB in the lineup as communication was clearly an issue). Sealy wasn't bad but missed his chance in the second half on a mistimed header that could've equalized. Castillo had a couple of moments but wasn't a difference maker. Rodriguez isn't MLS starting caliber (against good teams) at LM. Loyd played well. edit: Benitez was ok, and very active, though I wonder if that had something to do with LAG shutting down the right side. If the latter, then I have to commend Arena for limiting Jackson's possible effectiveness. With Hernandez, Jacobson (he was ok), and Ferreira out there at the same time the FCD midfield is plodding, at best. LAG consistantly beat them to loose balls. Most importantly, I have to say I'm surprised that LAG was able to apply high pressure in that heat for so long. That's been the book for a few years now on beating Dallas, but the heat/humidity this time of year at home usually prevents that.
I guess he felt that bringing him back immediately wouldn't send a strong enough message. I dunno, it's probably too late anyway. Maybe the benching will do the kid some good (I hope). I have mixed feelings about that whole situation.
I think I've finally figured out why our attendance averages suck compared to the rest of the league. It has nothing to do with Frisco's location, or the Southlake fiasco, or the summer heat. For the better part of 16 years, when FCD actually packs the house, this team has a rich tradition of totally sucking and producing a snoozefest that sends the new fans packing. Tonight? Mission accomplished, yet again. This upsets me because I brought my wife (who really resists any attempt to attend soccer matches) and my youngest daughter (who plays but thinks the game is boring) and guess what? FCD pretty much killed any potential to get them to think that soccer is NOT boring. And by the way -- worst halftime of all time. Compare the total lack of entertainment value at halftime to pretty much any other team. Bush league.
Thing is he already had been benched. Why then bring him back to practice for the entire week, say a number of positive things about him, only to leave him off the 18 tonight? If it was that serious then hold him out of practice. But you practice for the week in preparation for the weekends game. So if Brek was at practice and I assume a prt of the preparation for tonight, why leave him off completely? I've seen players have words with coaches numerous times, across various sports, but have never seen a coach go this far. Is SH playing games or did something else happen we haven't heard about? I don't understand the this happened publicly so it's worse angle. Didn't DH launch a public tirade on twitter after he was pulled off? Yes. Remember Wade having to be restrained from going after Spoelstra in a Miami playoff game this year? Both said afterwards that type of thing happens in the heat of battle. They moved on. Brek of course isn't Wade, but the point in this type of thing happens a fair amount in pro sports, which leads me to strongly believe there's a whole lot more going on behind the scenes.
Seriously, complaining about halftime entertainment? For the record, there has not been halftime entertainment ALL YEAR, with a couple of notable exceptions (4th of July is the only one I can think of.. That was by deliberate decision across the league for the most part. Regardless, that was a struggle to watch, LAG did a great job stifling David, and I agree with the plodding midfield getting beaten to the ball time and time again. Quite a bit of movement across the back, but not much going forward. Honestly, I think we were lucky to only get put down one. Some great recoveries by the back line or RK had two more.
