Well, we did win it in 1997, so our name is on it (the Burn, technically). But I agree that it's an important competition to win, both for its historical nature (almost 100 years old, that's respectable even in European football) and for its pathway into the modern-day CCL.
Well, I would say last season we took it pretty seriously. We made it to the semifinals and narrowly lost to Seattle while they were on their way to buying another Open Cup. They'll buy this one too.
Not sure we didn't take this game seriously as well. Other than Blas and a banged up Hartman, who are the great available players that we left out of the match? If we are going to do things seriously, we need more talent on the available roster.
The us open cup is important for the team that wins because it's an auto spot in CCL. FCD has problems that are structural and not just roster issues. I'm not interested in watching half the players FCD is forced to run out there each week. Buying a player in Summer won't help. Firing Schellas won't help. Only time can help this situation. Maybe multiple seasons worth of time. I can't handle the stress of watching this team right now. I can't imagine how bad it is to be a player, coach or ticket rep.
