1. So how do you exactly pronounce"Boniek"? --How do the Hondurans say it? something similar to Boñek? --How do the Poles say it? bone-yek? --How should a Texan say it? BONE-ache? 2. About nicknames, until #1 is answered, i prefer to say OBG. I'm just guessing...I'll say it the way I pronounce it hahahaha
Hondurans say it like this: Bonne(french)-nee-yek idk how the Poles say it.. probably very different from how we say it How should a Texan say it??: hmmm well when I speak english (lol), I say his name Boney-yek
I thought I recognized you, but I couldn't recall where from! I'll definitely keep you in mind. I don't regularly sit with EB, but I'm in the GA's, so I thought that might've been it (may be a combination). Are you familiar with Honduran beer at all? I tried a Port Royal, and it was pretty solid. I really don't understand why the FO planned the two events concurrently. I understand OBG isn't with adidas, and there's an obvious "OMGHEJUSTGOHERE" factor. I would've loved to stick around, eat, and mingle if Tally, Bruin, et. all weren't 20 minutes away, Sharpies in hand. The adidas thing seemed well-planned, and the team could've avoided the conflict.
I decided to stay and mingle since I didn't want to make the drive and miss out on everything anyway. I went around twice, once for the picture and stuff, and the other after everybody had left and he was about to leave just to chat. I stopped drinking today, and I'm on a diet. All on the same day, just to make stuff interesting. You're welcome to come hang out and shit. Hahaha
I think it would've been cool to get a feel for how he's liking town, meet some of the fanbase, etc. In the rush to convince my friends to come out to Dynamo games, I haven't honestly connected with too many older fans. Saturday I'm bringing three newbies to their first game, but it's like herding cats haha. It's easy to lose yourself in explaining stuff you're used to.
Older fans as in following the Dynamo longer, I presume, because when it comes to age, I'm probably younger than you, Kimosabi.
Today's edition of the MLS Tiro Libre podcast (available at MLSsoccer.com and the usual podcast apps) has an interview with Boniek. Among other things, he talks about how hot it is in Houston.
I like that interview just like the other ones he has done. The more I see and hear from this guy the more I like him. I am so much happier having Boniek than, say, a Beckham or a Henry.
Thanks. I was sorry I had missed the interview. Too bad they cut out parts of it. I like him, he always looks happy and like he's having fun.
I'll bet his picture on the video screen for the pre-game announcement of the starting lineups will have a big smile. Some of those pics are funny. Will Bruin's makes him look really sad. Camargo's looks like he's really pissed - exactly how a defensive mid should look.
I wonder if Boniek has had any real training in dealing with the media, or do you just pick it up when you are a star in Honduras? Whatever, he seems very comfortable with reporters and always says exactly the right thing. I hope he starts learning English so he can reach a wider audience here. When you spend money on a DP it would be a nice bonus for him to get lots of exposure....do interviews, commercials, that sort of thing. I know Landín did some tv spots in Spanish, and Boniek has already made appearances and interviews in Spanish, but it would be cool to have him do some in English too.
...and to be able to communicate with his coach since he apparently knows no Spanish and hates all Mexicans.
Dom told me himself he wants SB1070 enacted here in Texas. He also told me that the only thing worse than an American forward is a foreign forward. I'm sleepy and have clearly lost it.
Boniek won the "Latino de la jornada" poll at the official MLS site this week. He ran away with nearly 86% of the vote. Winning this week's award means he gets free pupusas all week from Hydro's pupusa truck. They tried to do an event at Roosevelt Lounge, but Westside already has the place booked for his Liga MX viewing parties.
He's Boniek and he'll wreck your trip to the Bayou City The helmet is velvet effective, but sure not pretty Go! Fight! Win! and bring the hardware homeward Houston Dynamo
Ja, ja, ja! Absolutely great picture! Doesn't he have the BEST smile of all the Dynamo players? This guy exudes happiness! He is happy to be a Dynamo player, we are happy that he is here, he contributed immediately. I hope he stays with us a long time because I suspect he may become one of the most beloved Dynamo players of all time, or at a minimum, he'll be a great face of the franchise to the Hispanic community. And he eats for FREE at Hydro's pupusa truck every time he wants. Still trying to come up with enough $$$ to have our own ad. Maybe that Keeper Notes guy can come over for free with his camera and capture Boniek smiling in front of my truck? Here, start salivating:
Well good thing Pupusa isn't really a Honduran dish, so it won't be that much of a temptation for Boniek, but if we were talking about Baleadas... then people should worry.
WHAT? Next you are going to try to tell me that the pizco sour is NOT from Chile. And then that the arepa is NOT from Colombia. Or the ceviche is NOT from Peru, and the 3 leches is NOT from Mexico.
