If anyone is considering a side trip to Jericoacoara, I suggest you book your accommodation at your earliest opportunity.

It appears the town is getting quite busy during the WC and room rates are getting as high as those in Fortaleza during games.

    Hi All,

We plan to be in Fortaleza for 3 days (2nd to 4th July) and leave after attending the quarterfinal match.
Jericoacoara looks like an awesome place but I'm not sure I can do justice by planning that trip for just 2 days.

So, is the sensible option to stick to the beaches and the attraction within Fortaleza?

Also, I came across a ho(s)tel within a reasonable price range.
Would be grateful if some local can say if this hostel is in a decent location. - http://www.tripadvisor.in/Hotel_Rev...tlantico_Centro-Fortaleza_State_of_Ceara.html

    Thanks in advance!

Well, the location and the accommodation seems very humble. The vicinity isn't a slam, but if you want to stay there you must take care. During the day I think it's ok to walk around, but after the sunset take taxis even to go down to Iracema neighborhood or Dragão do Mar...

I went once to Jeri and spent 2 days there: on the 1st day we got there at 12pm and enjoyed the village.
On the 2nd day I went to a buggy tour (all the morning) and came back to enjoy the village and go out.
The 3rd day I just woke up and came back (arrived in Fortaleza at 13pm)

You can find several tour companies at Beira Mar Avenue, in front of Nautico Atletico Clube, they does some good day trips. I think for two days you may check Canoa Quebrada, it's in the East Coast and it's just 150km from Fortaleza.

That's a good spot. Just a quick look to see if el desmadre is on... and, if you get a bit tired, you can always take a siesta and get back right to it!

If anyone here is still looking for a hotel in Fortaleza, the Tulip Saint Martin has rooms for 2 people for around $150 per night, which is by far the cheapest I've seen for a decent hotel in Fortaleza. It's located in Meireles and the location appears to be pretty good.

are there places that one can go to outside of fortaleza for the day and return in the evening? not looking for something that would require an overnight stay.

    appreciate the feedback!

another question - what is the preferred method of transportation to the Stadium? is the area pedestrian friendly or what forms of public transportation should be taken?

Natal looks pretty close on the Map, but the drive looks like 8-9 hours. Does anyone know if ferry or renting a boat is an option? Looking to get to Natal for the USA vs. Ghana game and immediately back for the Brazil vs. Mexico game the next day. Any suggestions? Is this feasible? We have a group of 12 to share costs.

You from Seattle too? Im gonna be in Fortaleza all month and was thinking about going to Natal when i saw all the tickets available. My wife is from there so i know driving would not be fun. We looked at plane tickets and the best options were from Avianca but you wouldn't get back until the next day missing the Mexico game unless you wanna spend $500 ea for a ticket. A bus is probably the best option but to be honest i don't think theres enough time. So we are choosing not to risk it

Lived in Seattle for years, but not there any longer. Missing the environment for the Mexico game isn't an option, so I guess no USA vs. Ghana for us. Would love to see that game, but it just isn't feasible.

There are some day trips... you leave in the early morning and come back around 5 pm, you can spend a day at Beach Park (http://www.beachpark.com.br/), Canoa Quebrada (http://www.portalcanoaquebrada.com.br/portal_canoa_quebrada_in_english/) ,Cumbuco (http://www.portalcumbuco.com.br/en/), and Taíba (http://www.praiadataiba.com/en). These are my favorites. You can also spend a day at Praia das Fontes, Águas Belas, Lagoinha...

If you prefer mountain, waterfalls, caves... you can go to Ubajara National Park (http://www.portalubajara.com.br/index.html).

I wasn't here at the Confederations Cup, so I can't say how it will be at the WC. I know that tourists had to pass through riots
( these were the riots: hhttp://s2.glbimg.com/XCQt-UCS0jdyKJCzAcxC-Jm-tsU=/620x465/s.glbimg.com/jo/g1/f/original/2013/06/19/2013-06-19t183940z_1424105504_gm1e96k07bk01_rtrmadp_3_soccer-confederations.jpg)
and walk 1km to reach the stadium, and it was like 30°C at noon! I don't know about any protest during the WC yet. But I'm sure that there will be riots, but I don't know the magnitude. Just keep it in mind to get ther in time...

I think the best way to get there is by taxi. Actually you can get there just going straight up Desembargador Moreira Avenue. The stadium is around 11km from Meireles / Praia de Iracema.

About being pedestrian friendly, this is the main avenue to get there, The sidewalks are cool, but the in-median is all gravel. Anyway, it should be closed during the matches.

Nope! There is no Ferry at all in Brazil, you can rent a car and drive to Natal. The distance is 550 km and it takes 6 hours to get there, also the road is actually good. In your case if you rent a van you can save some money... you must check. See these websites (http://www.maisoncar.com.br/) (http://vipvanstransportes.com.br/) ( http://www.aglvans.com.br/) (http://www.fretbustransporte.com.br/veiculos-de-aluguel.htm)

By driving you take CE 040 and at the end take BR 304 until Natal. Some pictures of the road:

Hoping a local can help me with this one.......we are also looking into making the drive from natal to fortaleza right after the USA vs Ghana (for mex vs brazil) . Is there a town in between these two cities that we can stay in in order to start the drive that night and end it the next day early morning? If anyone is interested in coming with us please pm me. It's me and my boyfriend. We have to drive back to natal right after the mex vs brazil though bc we fly back to Houston out of natal at 4 pm on the 18th.

If you need/want to stop, the most developed cities are Mossoró (RN) and Aracati (CE).

Hello - you seem to have lots of good suggestions. I am in Fortaleza for one night. I arrive from Salvador on the 4th, go to the quarterfinal game, then fly back to Salvador at 7am on the 5th to see the other quarterfinal. Any recommendations where to stay for one night?
Also, anyone have an extra place to sleep for one person on the 4th? I will share in the cost of the room (obviously). I am the only one of my five friends making the trek to see the other quarterfinal from Salvador. Any advice/help would be great - Thanks!!

Also doing this mission, albeit in a rented car... I'm guessing it's a drive-all-night mission if we want to get to Fortaleza for the Bra-Mex gameday experience?

I'm planning on staying with a friend there in Fortaleza, but does anyone know of last-minute accoms if that falls through? Renting an apt in Natal, so that's taken care of...
