Have the Revs said how seriously they'll take it this year? Here's the details ... Revs will start play in mid-June.
Looking forward to it, if for no other reason than to see the likes of Mullins and Neumann play. I'd love it if they did another game at Harvard.
GPS Portland Phoenix (PDL) host FC Lehigh Valley United Sonic (NPSL) at 7:00 on Wednesday, May 7th at Deering High School in Portland, Maine. We've had a small group of Revs fans at some of the Phoenix's previous USOC matches and more are always welcome.
USOC match of the week...MA derby: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...soc-game-of-the-round-rd1-massachusetts-derby
What's the deal with the Rams and the USOC this year? I know they didn't enter last year, did they attempt to get in this time?
Disappointment for SC Corinthians last night. In New England results, Portland Phoenix lost at home to Lehigh Valley 1-0. Pioneers beat Mass Premier 4-1, after having been behind 1-0 early. Also on that link, Vermont lost to RBNY's U-23 squad. I believe the Revs will play the winner of the Pioneers/Rhinos matchup.
While, the the feel of the venue and the atmosphere at the Harvard game was grass roots and was great indeed, I am reminded that my bladder almost burst because I didn't want to miss any of the match waiting in the endless line for the port-a-john. I also went hungry for the same reasons with the long line at the concessions. In addition, I didn't want to relinquish my prime viewing spot by walking away and someone near me smoked the whole game, which was a bummer.
I watched the stream of Western Mass Pioneers vs. MPS last night, and I came away with a question: why isn't Alencar Junior in MLS? I Googled him, and it looks like he had aspirations of playing for the Revs a year or so ago. Have the Revs given him a look? He seems like he could be a diamond in the rough type of guy. I've only seen one game of him, but he was playing way, Way, WAY out of PDL's league. I don't know if he would translate to MLS, but he's certainly worth a tryout. And he's a construction worker, so salary is likely not an issue.
My Ventura County Fusion won their first USOC match this week. Love to see them start chopping at MLS teams soon. On a side note, many MLS teams have grabbed Fusion players for years now but I can't think of one that ended up as a Rev. You'd think one of them would have at least have had a run out by now. Wynalda grabbed a bunch of scrubs from this area and made a deep run not too long ago. Any Revs from the West Coast ever get a look that didn't come from the draft?
You're jumping the gun just a tad. Pioneers/Rhinos winner plays another round 2 winner in round 3 and then we will likely play that winner. Don't have the other game off hand.
Just to clarify, the field has expanded to 80 teams this year (up from 68 last year). Round 1 (just completed): 16 teams (PDL and below) Round 2: 8 winners, plus 26 teams (PDL and below) plus 14 USL-Pro teams (48 teams total) Round 3: 24 winners, plus 8 NASL teams (32 teams total) Round 4: 16 winners, plus 16 MLS teams (32 teams total)
I'd love for the Pioneers to win and host another game. I went to their game against MPS since I play in the BSSL with them and it was a good time. It's a fun place to watch a game.
On the home front, the USOC will likely give us the opportunity to see Knighton, Woodbine, McCarthy & Imbongo in action. I wonder if we'll pull a player or two back from Rochester as we did last year?
Rochester Rhinos win their 2nd round matchup, beating the Western Mass Pioneers 2-1. All goals came in the second half of extra time.
"Draw" to figure out which match-up winners the MLS teams will play in the fourth round is this week, not sure when it will be announced though. I use the term "Draw" very loosely.
Revs will either be at the Richmond Kickers (USL Pro) or play NY Greek American Atlas (USASA) at Stevenson Field in Providence on Brown's campus. Full pairings
