http://www.empireofsoccer.com/cosmos-collision-course-25248/ Looks like Cosmos and Red bulls will more than likely face each other in the fourth round of this years USOC, The Cosmos still need to win one game before that though. It'll be very interesting to see who gets picked as the home team, hope they come to our house. Here is a more detailed schedule, http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/04/24/09/27/140424-usoc-2014-tournament-announcement
Hey there, as much as I would like them to come to our house, I'm not sure if that will happen. Hofstra has a lot of things scheduled already for the month of June that have to do with Collegiate and High School sport championship matches. Its already been reported that if the Cosmos get picked to host any of those matches, that we would likely play them at St Johns University. Personally - I don't care if we play in a raggedy field at Flushing meadows - as long as we can prove ourselves against Red Bull or any other MLS side!! lol
Here's the article I was referring to when I mentioned St Johns University: http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/teams/cosmos2.php?article_id=36788
That's one of the disadvantages of not having your own stadium. I guess the advantage of playing in St Johns is the proximity to public transportation. Either way it's going to be great seeing this Cosmos against all kinds of teams, specially MLS teams. If we do see the Red Bulls in the fourth round I hope we stay in St Johns.
Get ready - Cosmos are ready to play in the US Open Cup - first match is May 28th! http://cosmossoccerfan.com/2014/05/08/cosmos-first-us-open-cup-opponent-announced/
Let's hope we get good weather, that should help the turnout. I've never been to St Johns for a soccer game, turf? ...Probably turf. with a two losses already we could use a win, let's hope for a good turnout and a W.
I'm really looking forward to it... All the back and forth the last couple of years it's really good to see it all finally play out on the pitch. With NYCFC coming to MLS in 2015 I think the rivalries will only get more intense.
FIRST THINGS FIRST Italians worry about Lowell, Express before Cosmos http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/teams/italians2.php?article_id=36903
Red Bulls vs Cosmos in the 4th Round would definitely make for an interesting "New York City" Derby between a team from New Jersey and a team from Long Island. Hmmm...
Wouldn't want it any other way. Brooklyn Italians are a well respected organization, with a great deal of pride and history. The Cosmos will do well to going with the mentality that it'll be a hard fought game and not a walk in the park. Last Monday against Minnesota we had 3 players subed out due to injury, that will no doubt have some repercussions on our starting line up against Tampa Bay and also against BK Italians.
Lots of connections between Brooklyn and the Cosmos...and there are more than what I wrote here!! http://cosmossoccerfan.com/2014/05/15/cosmos-vs-brooklyn-italians-lots-of-connections/
I'll be there as well, looking forward to a good game. I know Gio respects BK Italians. On relevant news the possible parings for the 4th round are out. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/05/16/13/29/140516-usoc-fourth-round-pairings Looks like the winner from Cosmos, BK Italians get to face the NYRB! That will no doubt be a Clasico baby!
As a neutral fan, it would have been much cooler if the Red Bulls hosted the Cosmos. Grass, no football lines, and a $200 million SSS. A great venue for a great sporting event. Rooting for you guys to beat them tho
True, it would have been a better venue, but I think that although Cosmos don't have a SSS they could still benefit from having the Red Bull out of their "element" if you will. Personally speaking it is way easier for me to get to either Hofstra or St Johns than to go to RB arena, specially on a weekday. I would venture to say that holds true for most of the people that consistently attend the games.
http://www.empireofsoccer.com/stadium-possible-encounter-25893/ Cosmos have secured Hofstra for a possible Saturday night match against the NYRB. Don't want to look ahead to this match yet, but if we get by BK Italians it'll be better to play at Hofstra because it seats more people, I'm sure there'll be a good number of NYRB supporters.
