Well, since it's been a month... I'll resurrect this one with apologies for the letter duplication... but a song about the Day of the Dead is apt for a thread resurrection, I think: H for "Hecho en Mexico," by my hometown Ameri-pop band, The Great Party...
Haven't thought of these guys in a long time... but my teeth are killing me... The Jazz Butcher, Death Dentist...
Please forgive the double... but this is too frigging good: King Crimson, "Elephant Talk" live on the old comedy review show Fridays. Music starts at .30. Tony Levin, Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp from right to left, and a drummer whose name I can't recall... [/B]
Given how utterly 80s that clip looks, it's almost certainly Bill Bruford. And speaking of blasts from the past, L is for Lordi
Doubling it up on R because I have too much good music to share... R is for Chimurenga Renaissance - The B.A.D. Is So Good R is also for Karol Conka - Corre, Corre Ere
S is for unusual Studio techniques in the mid-70s The Making of I'm Not In Love- 10cc Today, this song would simply use a sampler. In 1975, tho, totally different story. Check it out.
I am sort of combining S and T. The S is for the song title, "Surrender," while the T is for the band, The Call. Forgive the interjection of real life herein, but my oldest daughter graduated from high school Sunday. She sings and has a lovely voice, terrific poise in front of an audience, plays guitar well - the whole package. And I really love to hear her sing. So this relatively obscure but great little track from The Call has long been one that makes me think of my daughter, especially as it speaks to loved ones separating and still going forward together. So give it a listen if you wish, just change the one word "son" in the middle to "girl" or something and it'll be one about Ismitje and his daughter.
U is for Girl U Want- Freelance Whales This just might be the most original cover of a song where I really like the original a lot.
V is for Wall of Voodoo... Mexican Radio.. I wish I didn't post this so close for lunch. I could really go for some barbecued iguana about now...
X is for a terrific re-done version of Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" - featuring Right Said Fred ripping on Bashir Assad on last Sunday's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver:
D is for Dance With Me- Orleans One of the most underrated bass lines of all time- not just "that riff" in the early part, but the whole song. Super, super fun song to play.
