Actually, it isn't a promotion spot. First place qualifies for the national play off round, which has six teams playing for 3 promotion spots.

You forgot to mention that Kiel have qualified for the Regionalliga promotion playoffs. If they win, they will move up to 3. Liga next season

 

Holstein Kiel have been promoted to the 3. Bundesliga after winning the Regionalliga Südwest and winning a two legged playoff with Hessen Kassel 4-1 on aggregate (2-0 and 2-1). Heider scored the first goal in the second leg on the road. Heider had 12 goals and 12 assists in 32 games (23 starts) in the Regionalliga Südwest.

 

North, actually - Kiel are the northermost pro club in Germany. Hessen Kassel is from South-West.

 

Heider got the start and was sent off for 2 yellow cards as Holstein Kiel opened the 3. Liga season yesterday with a 0-0 road draw against Hansa Rostock.

 

Man, I haven't thought about Marc Heider since buying him in Football Manager, when he was still playing with Werder II. (Probably back around FM 07 or 08.) Glad to see that he's worked his way back up to the 3. Liga.

 

Heider scored the lone goal of the game (0:42 mark) in Holstein Kiel's 1-0 win.

He was recently put into the starting XI and rewarded his coach's trust with a goal. Heider: "I feel more comfortable up top than on the wing, where you have to work more at the back. I will continue to give it my all."
