John Alschuler, representing Miami Beckham United: "Says they (Royal Caribbean International) have a sweetheart real estate deal. The county loses $5 million a year because they only pay $12 a foot in rent for a space worth $30... RCI currently uses that space for a parking lot." http://miami.cbslocal.com/video/10072795-facing-south-florida-soccer-in-south-florida/
Two Sides Trade Jabs Over MLS Stadium At PortMiami: http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/04/20/4070389/two-sides-trade-jabs-in-debate.html
There is most definitely a rivalry growing already. We hate you guys up here and judging from the comments left on the OCSC facebook page from Miami fans, you guys feel the same way.
It's gonna be a fun rivalry, don't take it the wrong way, but I hate Orlando the MLS team, it would be fun if they do finish that speed rail, because we would have as many supporters up there as you would have up supporters down here.. Good luck to you @Duffington make sure u don't wear that purple jersey down here alone though, I think will hate Orlando more than we hate New York teams.
Interestingly enough the future development of the port's Southwest corner does not exclusively call for port related usage. But with future development in the Southwest corner they want future developments with an eye on marine activities. From the recent rendering of the stadium, I believe there will be a marina and activity area just outside of the stadium also with boat dockage space.
Here are some quotes from the above video shared by MLS1FAN: Port Miami's Master Plan quotes: "It's been the heart and soul of Miami before Miami was even a place...It's been here, connecting Miami to the rest of the world." "The goal is to integrate the port more fully with the world-class city that surrounds it." "As a good neighbour, the port recognizes the important role it plays in the community." "...along with possible mass transit links in the future." There's nothing in that video that states the port is off limits for use as a stadium and a public place. The above quotes taken directly from the video would support such a use. On another note, this master plan also has as one of its premises the belief that the cruise industry as well as commerce will continue to grow, and that the port must grow to meet the increased demand. Now that may be true with commerce, but, is that always going to be true for passenger cruises? The industry has had a string of bad news of late. As a lawyer who works in real estate, I can't help but think back to the 2000's when everyone said that home prices and demand would just keep on increasing. No one gave any thought to the idea of a housing bubble. And then... The best future for PortMiami is to surely have the capacity to meet increased demand but to have a diversified strategy in case the demand isn't always increasing. What better way to tie the Port to the City then to have a stadium and public access, a gathering place for people? Is building 7 million+ square feet of commercial space (as has been proposed by PortMiami) the way to diversify? Well to some extent yes, but it comes at the expense of downtown Miami, since it will increase commercial vacancies downtown and the increased supply will decrease the price that commercial space is leased for, so overall it's a loss to the City of Miami. Plus, it is believed that the stadium will lease the land and pay market price, not the heavily discounted price that Royal Caribbean has in their lease. That is the reason that they oppose the stadium. It has nothing to do with traffic, etc. Royal Caribbean knows that once their current lease expires, or even before if the stadium gets built, that they are going to be forced to pay market price for the land they lease, just like the other cruise ship companies. Miami people need to recognize this and take a stance with their government officials.
Any news so far on anything? Damn this Royal Caribbean thing is killing the vibe, we had it going strong. What happen to the naming and colors of the team? wasn't it supposed to happen soon? We need news, I feel that every first of the month we get new news on the MLS Miami bid. We need something.... Does anyone know if by any chance Miami starts play in 2017, and in 2018 Adidas take of MLS contract finished will there be a possibility of MLS going to different brands for different teams?
you have to be more patient. we all know this is still in the works. the dumbarses in Royal Car is just a small obstacle. most of the citizens and influential politicians are supporting Becks.
Anyone here from Miami, and has an opinion on Miami Beach residents bitching about the stadium because it might cause traffic towards the beach? They have a newsbit about it in local NBC news, why the hell would they be bitching about a stadium that would not affect them, if not at all, maybe just a bit. New York is having similar to worse problems as well, but thy starting next year, we won't get announced unless a stadium deal is on place and by the looks of it, we have a long fight ahead of us.
the traffic to the beach during peak hours is horrendous. but most games will be played at night, and most of the soccer traffic will be directed towards the port, which is a seperate island and bridge from the Mc Arthur Causeway and other bridges connecting Miami Beach and the mainland. Im willing to bet these residents are in the minority, and are part of the older group of residents that recently moved to Miami Beach.... one of the hottest destinations in the world to party... and expect peaceful neighborhoods. F@#?/ them! they want calm and sleepy neighborhoods, then move out to the suburbs.
We cant, how can we combat these fools, convince thise that are on the fence about yhe stadium and show them there true colors. Brcause these politicians act like they show concern for their citizens but reality is they are all part of the RC Cruise line fiasco.
http://www.local10.com/news/public-hearing-held-on-mls-stadium-in-portmiami/25629194 What happen with the idea of the boat taxis, the metrorail system, the underwater walkway tunnel? People only want to be close minded and really believe everybody is going to use their car to come watch a game!!! Come on folks!! For real?!
The moment Becks and Company announced the stadium was entirely funded with private money they had most of the city on their side. Anytime something big like this happens, there will always be a minority trying to act like complete buzzkills. They have their reasons... they want more benefits, money, assurances from the county commisioners etc again, just a bump in the road.
The Seaport Alliance back by it's supporters like Norman Braman, Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine and other notables in opposition have produced an opposition commercial ad now being shown on the air ways in South Florida during the hours that the morning local news are aired. This commercial ad is titled "No To A Stadium At The Port" I did a search on YouTube but wasn't able to find it yet. But the commercial claims a stadium at the port would disrupt cargo traffic and that it would hurt lots of jobs and we just can't afford to do that the commercial says. The funny thing is in the opening of this commercial, they show an image of Marlin's Park and say "they want to give us another stadium" and at the closing of this ad it says get the facts! "No To A Stadium At The Port"! The negative push have officially begun and these commercials are back by some big money people like Norman Braman and the Seaport Alliance that also include Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine...that's why I post a few days ago that this is starting to get very interesting.
