Kaburu - Please put some context to the links you post telling us what the article is about. Heck it would be nice if you said whether you thought it was worth reading as well. Just seeing a bunch of links with no info is worse than just doing a google search - google at least shows you the first few sentences of each article so you get some idea if it will be worth clicking on.
I sort of agree with you - he's said all the right things before, but the proof will be on the field. Frankly, I was encouraged by the performance in Portland (the only exception being the shots he passed up in the first half) - but he's going to have to establish himself in camp and in the games for the national team all over again. If he stays healthy, I have confidence in him.
Landon Donovan facing stern test in World Cup camp http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-landon-donovan-world-cup-20140519-story.html
^I love the editors of these pages who come up with these headlines. ESPN also did a story, and I don't know if it's because Jeff Carlisle reported on him for awhile, but it's more robust and confident sounding. http://www.espnfc.com/blog/_/name/unitedstates/id/61?cc=5901 Also note - said by LD: "We track our workload and all that stuff and [team-wide] I’ve been right at the top of all of that. I feel very good about where I’m at." Dude is fit, and like usual at the top of the beep test etc. I hope the whole "fat Landon" stuff just dies.
The "Will Landon make it?" storyline is good press, so we'll probably be seeing lots of it right up until he's officially in the 23.
God it's so stupid. ESPN called him "on the bubble" today. This is straight up ridiculous. Do people bother to watch our games?
This is definitely the media creating something out of nothing. Think of the story they will have when LD is one of the best players for the US during the World Cup. The media will have created the "comeback/feel good story of the year" and will be gushing about it as much as possible. As we all know, the USA loves underdog stories. They are probably already working on their articles now.
Fairly good debate on this topic. Is LD an aging superstar that needs to come to terms with a new role for the US? Or is he still The Man for the US and just needs to step up and act like it? http://www.mlssoccer.com/video/2014...n-donovan-youre-best-ever-act-it-brazil-bound
I wish a debate could take place without mentioning Dempsey. No mention of Clint's "mentality" when he was struggling for more than 6 months. The psychoanalysis is annoying. LD has a different personality that doesn't fit the traditional rah rah sports mold. Haven't we figured that out already? And who the hell cares since he has delivered?
Never did I think Julian Green would be taken to the World Cup over Landon Donovan. That kid better be straight up amazingly good. I'm really personally upset to see Donovan's national team career most likely end this way, and I am hating Klinsmann right now. This is also the consequence, bad in my mind, of signing Klinsmann to another 4 years before this World Cup. He can throw this one away with no consequences.
I still don't understand how the hell Donovan didn't make it. Honestly how does Green make it over him?
