    As far as I know that was also Arsenal's first ever Youth Cup defeat at the Emirates Stadium too.

    I think he makes some very good points and there is some good info here, but at times seems to be reaching very hard to support the club's recent experience with youth players and at times seems almost disingenuous. His answer for the reason that CFC have been relatively unsuccessful at developing youth talent into the first team while other clubs like LFC and ManU have done so? "We're better than them - higher quality needed." That doesn't quite answer the question for me and rings untrue. Better to just admit that things have been a bit disappointing to date and some mistakes have been made, much like at any other club, but that a massive investment has been made and we hope it bears fruit in the near future. I don't think its a stretch to acknowledge that it might take 10 years of heavy investment to develop a youth program that can compete with the top programs in Europe, which is our goal. There's no shame in where we are at, but I think we all want to see some of these kids playing on the senior team, having come up through our system, rather than just buying the most established and expensive players every year to fill out the first team roster while loaning some of these guys out 4 or 5 years on end.

    I think you are missing the mark here and can assure you that Juni is far from a Chelsea Football Club apologist and is one of the more vocal advocates of playing our younger options. With that being said the point he makes is extremely important and one which is rarely, if ever, addressed in the constant media narrative that we did not give our youngsters a chance. We are currently the only club in England which regularly offers extensive CL Football to its' players combined with a very realistic chance to compete for the League at the same time. United are obviously the next closest team to that and this year with Moyes has really hurt them but our run of CL semi final appearances is matched only by the all knowing, Gods of Football in Barcelona. The point being made is that we are basically asking an 18-21 year old lad if he is good enough to complete at the pinnacle of football by being part of a team competing for the CL and the Premier League. Who else honestly can do that in England right now?

    I will agree no end with the United fans that Moyes has mismanaged them this season but the majority of them will admit that there squad is well short of realistically competing on both fronts. Citeh can not yet be measured as they have not reached those stages of the CL nor can their impact on the money spent vs youth players ignored measurement be properly weighed. Arsenal- lets get serious. And Liverpool have been able to bring youngsters into their squad because they have the luxury or curse of not competing for such honours for a while now.

    The simple point is that you can not have a fanbase who craves CL and Premier League Trophies and wants it done with a team of youngsters. As for promoting one or two of them to squad members- there may be a tad more traction there but again as the article lists there are seasoned professionals who barely gets games as squad members so what good does that do a lad who needs develop.

    I see little excuses being made in the article and instead some refreshing honesty for the way things currently are which obvious does not fit into the current narrative far too many seem to believe.

    makes you wonder how the media keep going on with these stories of him being sold for 25 mil

    25 mil for a 20 year old player who is proven as an effective goal scorer in the Prem with two full years of experience and also qualifies as homegrown...

    yeah that price sounds about right :rolleyes:

    Of course, that's the point of youth team football, isn't it. :)
