Too obvious. What I predict is that we will score first in the first half and then in the second half Real Salt Mormon will score to tie it up. We will then have a golden opportunity to score but will miss blatantly. 1-1 tie.
Lineups anyone? Here's what I'd like to see...(I know, humor me) --------------------------Johnson--------------------------- --Palmer ----Hurtado --------- Soumare -----Cochrane-- --Nyarko ----Larentowicz----- Shipp ---------Duka------- --------------------Joya---------Magee---------------------- and here's what I anticipate we'll see... --------------------------Johnson--------------------------- --Palmer ----Hurtado --------- Soumare -----Cochrane-- -------------------Larentowicz-----Alex-------------------- --Nyarko ---------------------------------------Shipp------- -------------------------------Magee------------------------- ---------------Anangono------------------------------------ If Yallop institutes PK drills after practice I'm confident Sparky won't blow his next PK opportunity...can't vouch for the rest of the team.
Well, for the first lineup, Magee has played goalie and Johnson can't any worse at striker than JLA. At least, Sean would be make an attempt on the penalty kick. Not, sure we are allowed two goalkeepers, though. As for the first, I do not want to see Joya up top. He claims his best position is defensive midfielder. How about Magee and Rolfe?...oh, yeah. How about Magee and Gentile?...oh, we loaned him out. How about Magee and JLA?...no. Borouch is still on the team, right (he is listed on the website)?
How about Mike Ernst? He's tall, already on the payroll (so it won't cost nothin') and I'm guessing he's got a better penalty shot then JLA.
I'd like to see a 4-5-1 with everyone in their preferred positions. ----------------------SJ--------------------------- Palmer---Hurtado------Soumare-----Cochrane Nyarko----Big Red-----Shipp----Joya----Duka ------------------Magee-------------------------- Joya seems to prefer a deeper position and Shipp is probably better suited in the middle. I would hope that this would provide enough defensive cover as different players move forward. I wouldn't mind seeing Segares slide over into Soumare's spot although I guess Baky has been playing better lately.
How about this ------------------Calen Carr------------- ---Calen Carr---Calen Carr---Calen Carr--Calen Carr ---Calen Carr---Calen Carr---Calen Carr--Calen Carr-- ---------------Calen Carr---Calen Carr------- You think we should go with 2 Calen Carrs up top or 1? Personally, I think 4 Calen Carr's in the back is pushing it a bit. ...I should stop sniffing glue.
Noted and carded. HeyFireGo, keep sniffing glue God dammit, it's the only way to forget this season has started already.
Gentile was recalled, at least for the reserve game the other day. I'd stille expect JLA to start with Gentile on the bench at most
Well, I did preface my lineup with "humor me". We've got enough defensive midfielders. I'm impressed with Joya's quickness and contrary to what the kid says, he's got a nose for the goal. He scored our first goal of the season on his first touch or the ball (yes it was off a rebound of Alex's shot, but I don't see too many of our other "defensive" midfielders putting themselves in position to knock in loose balls), he got a couple of assists and a goal in the preseason, and he picked up 2 goals and 2 assists in nine games of the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Could be a total fiasco, but I'd like to see what he can do up top in combination with Magee and/or Amarikwa...at least until Ward gets here.
uincy is out, unfortunately. He could keep scoring at this rate and easily have a boatload of goals season. But not for this match. We know what we will get: Anangohome and Magee behind him. We'll be lucky to get a tie.
So, we should start a kid defensive midfielder at striker, even though he has only appeared in 8 games in his professional career (4 in Mexico and 4 in MLS) and never as a striker, with one goal to his name? How is that a nose for the goal? Ward is not a striker, either. He is listed as a midfielder. Ward has never played a professional league game in his career; he has 46 appearances for the youth teams (Academy and U-18) at Tottenham, not even the actual reserves. If you are hanging your future on Grant Ward, you are immensely optimistic. By the way, I really hope you are right about Grant Ward and Benji Joya.
More like desperately grasping at straws rather than optimistic. For the reasons I've cited, I'd like to give Joya the opportunity to play more of an attacking role. Our choices are limited and I don't see the resources we have to work with getting better any time soon.
No appeal on Amarikwa...yeah, I know appeals are HARD! At least Yallop's keeping an open mind on Amarikwa's replacement... http://www.chicago-fire.com/news/2014/04/frank-yallop-says-fire-wont-appeal-quincy-amarikwa-red-card
To be fair, you are only allowed two unsuccessful appeals in the season, and on top of that, you risk losing $25,000 if they decide your appeal was frivolous (the second case also doubles the suspension length). I doubt Quincy's appeal would be considered frivolous, but its awfully early to be submitting an appeal that I doubt would be overturned. I think Yallop is right, if it had been a straight red for the second, its worth appealing, but a yellow card is a fairly low bar, and any appeal would have to be unanimous to be overturned
