Apparently the Rapids want the attention of the DisCo: http://www.coloradorapids.com/video/2014/04/21/when-line-crossed-physical-sport
It would be interesting to see that from another angle. If Gordon really got him with an elbow he should get some attention.
I'd like to see Borg ref a game purely because it would be the first in MLS to have to be ended as one of the teams ran out of eligible players.
Absolutely, it would be exciting to see matches regularly end with 7 v7. Yup, at least 2-3 in every match. But his loud, booming voice would ensure a certain measure of match control.
I say this every time people make the silly assertion that a Borg-reffed game would end up with no players and PKs abound: Players absolutely need to be able to account for how a ref is calling a game. If they found out that flying around with your studs up was going to be an unequivocal RC then I would hope that they would be able to restrain themselves. The other thing is that Borg would be no more capable of seeing everything that happens on the pitch than any other ref.
The real question is though, how many women in the crowd would he find "sexually attractive" enough to deserve his much sought after attentions after the game?
http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?intcmpid=nav-video-main I don't know if this has been brought up before but I absolutely love how the NHL's, Dept. of Player Safety, their version of the DisCO, uploads a video that: announces any league disciplinary action, breaks down the incident, openly shares how they came up with their conclusion, and most importantly reiterates and/or explains the broken rule(s). Man, I tell ya, I would love to see MLS take a page out of the NHL and do something like this. Simon Borg does a reasonably good job of subjectively discussing, pointing out, and critiquing incidents but he's not a DisCo rep nor has any influence on their decisions. MLS, normally speaking, just releases a bland statement announcing disciplinary action taken. Uploaded videos like this would greatly help fans, players, and media alike.
The one time they did it they got so villified I doubt they'll try again. They tried to explain why Eddie Johnson did not need to be suspended for kneeing a prone Philadelphia Union player because league favorite Seattle had an important game against the Quakes the next week. Lenhart was deservedly suspended for the same game. Seattle won 4-0.
Considering the number of times the DisCo has handed down punishments on Sounders, someone clearly has no idea what they are talking about.
I'm not going to claim that the Sounders are a league/DisCo favorite, but his underlying point was valid. The DisCo's attempt in explaining that lack of suspension was woefully incomplete and laughable.
