http://www.soccerbyives.net/2014/04/usl-pro-week-look-back.html#more-74082 Most of these results have already been mentioned, but it is a good review of the weekend.
FWIW, The original FCD Top release said: The loan to Arizona United SC is effective for the entire 2014 season with FC Dallas having the right to recall Top at any time. http://www.fcdallas.com/news/2014/04/fc-dallas-loans-jonathan-top-usl-pro-side-arizona-united Presumably there are some kind of rules governing how many loans are allowed in one year, who can play for whom under what circumstances and in what competitions, and so on, but I sure as heck don't know what they are.
It was just for this game. FCD did the same thing the previous weekend with Cobi Span. I don't necessarily think its a bad sign that the club wants to ocassionally recall players from loan to use them in reserve games. Keeps them in the thoughts of the coaching staff. It's not like he missed a game with Phoenix to be with FCD for this one. The more games the better.................. FCD's write-up of the 3-2 loss versus Orlando. http://www.fcdallas.com/news/2014/0...ffer-first-loss-2014-usl-pros-orlando-city-sc FC Dallas – Raul Fernandez, Ryan Hollingshead, Nicholas Walker (Aaron Meyer 46), Walker Zimmerman, Zach Loyd (Kris Reeves 78), Victor Ulloa, Adam Moffat (Shaquelle Moore 76), Andrew Jacobson, Tesho Akindele, David Texeira (Diego De La Tejera 46), Jonathan Top (Santiago Agudelo 80). A couple things to note there: 1) Shaq Moore apparently still at the FCD Academy. 2) Walker Zimmerman went 90. Good sign. Seems like he's fully recovered from his injury. Scored a goal.......... 3) And in the "relatives" of pro players category they brought on academy forwards Santiago Agudelo and Diego de la Tejera as subs. 4) Yes, FCD is using the Peruvian national team keeper with the reserves, thus keeping the two academy players Sanchez and Gonzalez rooted to the bench. Gotta figure something out there. Should probably deal Fernandez at this point if Seitz has really won the job. Sanchez has to be getting the reserve team games. Or hell, deal Sanchez to Tigres (who own his economic rights anyway). He's at a critical stage here, and needs to be playing. At least Gonzalez was playing with the academy team at the Dallas Cup. 5) No Danny Garcia. Why not? Couldn't tell you. Perhaps this is a good sign for their upcoming MLS game?
... and Mikey Lopez replaced Ceren late for OCFC. Tyler Turner went another 90 minutes. Orlando City SC- GK Miguel Gallardo, D Tyler Turner, Rob Valentino (Justin Clark 35’), Brad Rusin, Luke Boden, M Yordany Alvarez, Darwin Ceren (Mikey Lopez 79’), Adama Mbengue, Kevin Molino, Brian Span (Anthony Pulis 68’), F Dennis Chin (Corey Hertzog 75’) http://www.orlandocitysoccer.com/news/?article_id=1816
Relevant upcoming USL action: Thursday -- Harrisburg at OC Friday -- Fire Reserves at Charlotte, G2 at Arizona Saturday -- Charleston at Pittsburgh, Richmond at Dayton, Orlando at OKC, Harrisburg at Sacramento Sunday -- G2 at OC
Seems like a more worthwhile effort than when I decided to follow Yanks in the Blue Square Premier League and below......................
Who knows what boondoggle I might undertake next season? One thing you can be sure of: lists! Oh, and arguing.
Then we should hope for more situations like Ben Spencer's, which are in the intersection of the two?
Ideally Spencer would also have an American mother who married a Danish guy and moved to Europe from Michigan in 1981. But we can't all be perfect.

Gallego has been switched to Arizona United. http://www.stumptownfooty.com/2014/..._medium=nextclicks&utm_campaign=articlebottom
Watched the replay of Orlando City against FCD reserves. Zimmerman looked quick, but the FCD backline had a difficult time playing together and dealing with Orlando City's very impressive speed. Turner wasn't all that involved, but didn't look out of place.
Seth Moses played the first 42 minutes for OC last night against Harrisburg, leaving because of a hamstring injury. His replacement, Chris Cortez, scored two goals (but they probably reshuffled since they play different positions). Jimmy McLaughlin went 74 for Harrisburg, getting off a couple of shots. OC won 4-1.
A couple of games last night: LA2 vs. Arizona Oscar Sorto went 90 and assisted on LA's goal, which was scored by non-Yank Mendiola Sir Bradford Jamieson, Fourth of His Name played 63 minutes McBean came off the bench for 23 minutes. For Arizona, Bryan Gallego made his debut and went 90 Jonathan Top also started and went 58 Charles Renken and Jacole Turner were unused substitutes Chicago Reserves vs. Charlotte I haven't seen a box score / lineup, but from the beginning of the video it looks like Victor Pineda started. Chicago fielded a very strong lineup since they have the weekend off. Based on Charlotte's twitter, Joya may have played the second half.

I am really interested to see if a young player who is having success at the USL/NASL level will be picked off by an MLS team. Not a lot of examples of this happening in the past but it would seem like more youngsters are getting minutes.
Definitely. I hope that is what our system is building towards over the next decade. Hopefully as the lower leagues become more and more stable more teams are able to create youth teams also. My dream is that in 5-10 years the DA emcompasses all the MLS, NASL, and USL PRO youth teams and all the top performing/producing youth clubs around the country.
There are more examples than you might think. Successful ones include Brian Ching, Jimmy Conrad, Kerry Zavagnin, Edson Buddle, Herculez Gomez, Joe Cannon, Pat Onstad, Sebastion Le Toux, Oswaldo Alonso, I think Tim Howard (can't remember for sure), Johnny Steele, and Luke Mulholland. To the limited extent that there have been good young players in our lower divisions, they've gotten their chance.
Saturday's games: Jaime Frias started and played 90 for Indy Ben Spencer made his debut for Indy Eleven, playing the last 30 minutes Mitchell Lopez was an unused substitute for Fort Lauderdale Tyler Turner played 90 for Orlando Jon Kempin played 90 for OKC Omar Salgado played 57 minutes for Charleston Jalen Robinson made his pro debut in Richmond, playing 15 minutes. Jimmy McLaughlin played 10 minutes for Harrisburg David Leichty played 8 minutes for OKC Mikey Lopez played 5 minutes for Orlando Bryan Salazar was an unused sub for Pittsburgh No sign of Mawolo Gissie or Collin Martin. Martin must have had a knock or been temporarily recalled. Philly should really either loan Pfeffer to Harrisburg or start playing him.
