You guys are silly. The U-20s without their best striker were playing the NCAA champions who had the best defense, players with experience on the U-23s, and even players with the full NT experience.... and you think they should win? Maybe show the champions a little respect? I honestly don't think any U-20 team would beat a full UCLA squad.
Wow - spot on Got Jukes - finally, someone who speaks the truth and tells the emperor he has no clothes. With the exception of a few players who understand the word "team" - there are many over hyped prima donnas in this group, combined with a weak coach, will spell only defeat once they do play competition of any good calibre outside of the pathetic CONCACAF teams. Disappointing.
UCLA looked scary good. The 20's looked much better than months back at the Home Depot, they are certainly a stronger group now. Maybe there's other equal talent out there but this group has a lot of it (20's).
Was at the game Saturday and UCLA looked really good, particularly in the second half. Very excited about next year! Go Bruins
There is no doubt that UCLA is an excellent team, and you can't take anything away from them, but Got Jukes is right. A national U20 team should be beating a college team, if it truly has the most talented players, regardless of how good the college team is. How does UCLA do against a national U23 team?
I don't know about a U-23 team, but UCLA (without Mewis who was with the USWNT) lost 3-2 against reigning Nadeshiko champions and 2013 mobcast Cup champions INAC Kobe, who have 6 of the Japan National Team members on it. Which is a pretty respectable result, if you ask me.
UCLA was also without Ally Courtnall while in Japan and for sometime now due to her Track commitments.
The Bruins finally announced their recruiting class: http://www.uclabruins.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30500&ATCLID=209486420
Here's the schedule: http://www.uclabruins.com/ViewArtic...37&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=30500&ATCLID=209524361
UCLA 3, Texas A&M 1 (scrimmage) Bruin starters: White, Smith, Alvarado, Killion, Mewis, Goralski, Dydasco, Oyster, Dahlkemper, Courtnall and Siri Ervik in goal. Goals: Oyster, Lavrusky, Mewis
Good question....still rostered but no playtime when they played pretty much everyone. My guess would be an injury they are trying to take care prior to the season opener
It didn't result in a goal, but I thought this was a thing of beauty: Brilliant play by Dydasco to find Mewis running into open space. And great job by Mewis to cleanly hit it on the volley. Unfortunately it went right to the Maryland keeper.
They've been watching France W-20 srsly ... it's the same four touches as Lavogez's goal . Rosie aimed at the bottom of the crossbar, too. Now they stand in ice baths, watch video and say: We have done that --
Very impressive first game from UCLA. Much better than last year, IMO. If they can stay healthy, they have a real chance to go down as one of the best women's soccer teams in NCAA history. Not developing any meaningful depth in terms of playing experience, though, so better stay healthy. Only (relative) weakness appears to be playing in tight spaces. Sure, they can do it pretty well, but not nearly as well as they play in open space. Be interesting to see if opponents bunker.
UCLA 3, UC Irvine 0 Interesting that the Bruin box score had UC Irvine with zero shots, but UCI's box credited themselves with one shot. Which would be the official statistic? http://www.uclabruins.com/ViewConte...7&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=30500&CONTENT_ID=958649 http://stats.bigwest.org/sports/wsoc/2014-15/boxscores/20140824_4w1x.xml
UCLA 0, UNC 0 Well, that was frustrating. The Bruins are playing better now compared to this same time last year (the second weekend). But with Gabbi Miranda and Courtney Proctor hurt, it's hard to say this is a better team, even with Annie Alvarado shining. They also sorely miss the departed Chelsea Stewart.
