Nice article on William Carvalho today on ESPNFC http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/thescoutsnotebook/id/1058?cc=5901
SCP pretty much ended Porto's cycle today was the statement, but Porto's era really ended on March 26th, 2013 when BDC came to power and basically stopped Sporting's friendly attitude against Porto now SCP is looking after itself, FCP is reverting back to regional status now we can focus on the coming years against taking down the real scum: Benfica.
I have to be honest, I haven't ever watched a full Portuguese league match in my life, but my friend who is Portuguese, who tells me Porto are a shit club, even though he doesn't watch much soccer, tells me something about Porto.
Porto has been dominant since PDC (Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa) became their president in the early 1980s, this coincided with the dark ages of SCP. since 1982 SCP has won 3 league titles (1982, 2000 and 2002) and a few cups FCP : leagues 1984–85, 1985–86, 1987–88,1989–90, 1991–92, 1992–93, 1994–95, 1995–96, 1996–97, 1997–98, 1998–99, 2002–03, 2003–04,2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11, 2011–12, 2012–13 20 in that same time frame... and they took and have stolen many players, FCP fans will tell you they hate benfica, but their president came with a mandate and that was to destroy SCP... even helped making "friends" with many of our scumbag presidents but now SCP has independant leadership who are anti-Porto. this looks like it will be the first season since PDC came to power that both Benfica AND Sporting will finish ahead of Porto... a new era is beginning, PDC is old, BDC (Sporting new president, Bruno de Carvalho) is young and ambitious. SCP has suffered much and now BDC actually wants to win. this is bad news for everyone. people have to remember, SCP is a massive club in Portugal... SCP does not "need " to win, they will always be grande... Porto needs to win to actualize itself and legitimize its own existence, this is why 2 years in a row of bad results will effectively kill Porto but 30 years in a row for Sporting, only scorches the snake but does not kill it so to speak... SCP was born as a legend, it is more than a club, it is a way of life. this is the difference.... but once SCP has good leadership, and actually feels like taking their rightful spot at the top of the Portuguese football...this is when others cannot stop us.
The guy, and his staff, have done a tremendous job turning this thing around, and deserve immense praise. Long may it last. In retrospect, the earlier "loss" to Godinho Lopes may have been a blessing in disguise, as it likely hardened BdC a bit and increased his determination to get to where he is.
Interesting short read. http://www.record.xl.pt/Futebol/Nacional/1a_liga/Sporting/interior_premium.aspx?content_id=875402
Bruno de Carvalho was in Brussels today where he met in the morning with German MEP, and chair of the EU Committee on Culture and Education Doris Pack. Then he had lunch with the Portuguese MEPs, and in the afternoon he had three meetings, one with the sports specialist with the aforementioned Committee R. Fizas, another with José Manuel Barroso and another with Androulla Vassiliou Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Youth and Sport. https://twitter.com/pack_doris/status/453834114433445889 Apparently the aim of these meetings was to discuss how to improve European football in general and betting sites in particular.
says a guy who pretty much forced his way out of SCP for money anyways, to each their own Benfica is a club with a much different mentality and culture than ours, to them winning at all costs is all that matters. They dont care if they field XI foreigners as long as they get wins so they can get drunk and yell at the top of their lungs "VIVA BOIFECCCA" and show up hungover to their menial and unfulfilling jobs the next day. So good for them for their success in Europe. For us, winning is only part of the picture and if we win it must be done properly and this means honouring our philosophy, our country, and our club values of Hard work, dedication, devotion, and glory.
There isn't much info so far. We only know it because it's on the cover of our newspaper, but the cover is always made public one day before the newspaper is put on sale. Sporting TV isn't going to be paid (expect ads) and it's going to be "multiplatform" whatever they mean by that. Maybe it will also be webtv, I heard something about Google+ but I don't know how that's going to work. Sporting TV is going to be managed by World Channels.
So, apparently the yearly budget for the channel is €1.8M and it will employ 60 people. It will be on 24/7, but if I got it right it will only air 6 hours of new content every day, except for weekends and match days when it will air 8 hours. As for what you can expect to watch on the channel: Football B team home games Youth football home games Handball home games Futsal home games Athletics meetings (Track and field for Americans) Roller hockey home games The production company, World Channels, creates content for TV, Internet, mobile devices among other platforms, so maybe that means it'll be available not only on TV but also on other media?
Sporting really have to fight for the title next season and have a decent Euro run if not it doesnt matter what BDC does. Optimism is the air but fans cant wait any longer and with Porto already making move next season will be intresting so far i am hearing romours of William leaving and Monaco intrested in Jardim not a good start to next season if true
this channel is gonna be amazing, greatest channel ever . hopefully they make it available internationally, afterall Sporting is a global brand. you always chime in here with your "Expert Opinion" on what is gonna happen at Sporting... we all know your a benfiquista with that galinha in your avatar, masquerading as a "santa clara" fan even though they use same kits and logo as SLB for many years and their fans tend to support them. werent you the guy who said Sporting was gonna finish 5th or something like that this season? Yes, William is gone, so is Jardim, Adrien, Mane, Montero, Slimani, we all know that Sporting is doomed Porto is making the right moves indeed, I mean they got Lopetegui, next season will win everything including CL of course. Boy i wish we had Lopetegui, wish I was a Porto fan indeed. If BDC was a great presidente, he would try and steal Lopetegui, sell William, Adrien, Patricio, etc to the first bidder buy up bunch of south americns and serbians buy Bruno Pereirinha, he can be our 1 Portuguese player on our roster and will play once every month or so and get praised on the NT board.
There's no possible way Jardim goes to Monaco. Monaco is Jorge Mendes' new toy and Jardim and Mendes have a pretty bad relationship. Jardim was a real possibilty for Marseille but they've already hired Bielsa. Monaco's next coach will surely be a Portuguese manager, but a Mendes' man, and I'm betting on Jorge Jesus with Marco Silva going to Benfica.
