I jogged by the stadium again today. Things are moving along nicely: both end stands are up, and they're putting doors on the suites (you know, to keep out the riff raft). The place looks almost ready. Especially on a beautiful day like today, it was easy to imagine what's coming in three weeks.
The support legs seemed very thin, supporter section are usually pretty raucous areas.... I am be no means a structural engineer and it will be safe, but that was my immediate thought.
Agreed that it looks less than ideal for a standing section. Of course, the backless benches in the main stand won't be real comfortable, either.
so the "tickets available for season ticket holders only" match against IU has tickets available to the public if anyone is interested... The third round of the US Open Cup is set to begin on May 28. No word yet on opponents or locations, of course.
I'll predict that Indy plays Dayton Dutch Lions in the 3rd round. If you look at the likely 2nd round winners I'd say Dayton or Michigan Bucks will be the closest to Indy. Michigan has a good chance of being paired with Minnesota. Higher league teams and, especially home teams, tend to win in the USOC. Dayton is at Schwaben AC, an amateur team from Chicago, in the 2nd round but Dayton is an experienced USOC team. I'd expect them to advance. Michigan Bucks is a PDL team but they host the winner of Detroit City/Adria in the 2nd round. Michigan has a lot of experience in the USOC. It is hard to see another good geographic match for Indy from the likely 2nd round winners.
