I forgot how confusing the lines are at Harvard. It's even worse than the blue lines at Dillboy which were pretty much impossible to see on the stream.
21' 1-0 In Boston's midfield, Sanderson/Lohman/Kyle are rotating every few minutes. Sanderson gathers at circle top wide left, squares to De Vanna and continues her run to box top left. De Vanna spins ccw away from Ohale(?), loose to 27m arc left. Rolls the vertical through-ball, but Sanderson too eager, bagged offside. Scoreboard graphic reads "0:0", then corrects itself.
Seattle at least made the correct decision of having the camera on the opposite side of where the fans sit, so that the stadium doesn't look completely empty.
Wow, this field is awesome! It's got: white - gridiron yellow - soccer red - lacrosse? field hockey? dark blue - I dunno 26' 1-0 Houston at box top center, long sequence of 50-50 balls and neither side can get the ball in/out. Finally pops wide to Ochs down box left to 2m, cute move shakes #3 Jones(?) but her cross sails badly, way wide right.
38' 1-0 Houston fk from circle top left, into box, bounces down to box top center. CB(?) #20 Ohale comes across and shoots point-blank into shin (she thinks: arm) ... no call, ball flies into far touch. Houston right throw-in, fizzle. 39' 1-0 Boston surge up right hash, through-ball to De Vanna at 14m mid-right. She turns away. 40' 1-0 Boston pings a ball to De Vanna open at 15m arc right. One-time volley try, sails high over bar.
And the 1st halftime ad is from Tourbeau Sports Group, bragging about their HD Quality Game Film Recording. About five other NWSL teams could look into that --
I'm trying to figure out the red and blue myself. Apparently there are 2 different types of lacrosse markings, one or women and one for men. I found this picture with similar markings (minus the gridiron): So apparently the red is for women, and the blue is for men.
50' 1-1 Dash pounce at 35m arc left, open hips right instep diagonal pass through right hash to #12 Tiffany McCarty coming right-to-hash. She sees the CBs pinching too far inside, anticipating her run -- stop-and-spins cw, suddenly she's behind their right flank as they flail and spin, through box top arc right to 14m. Hard rising shot to center, Naeher blocks ball -- soft pop-up drops to 7m left post. #30 Ella Masar runs on first, blasts left foottop roundhouse hard into the right side netting.
56' 1-1 Dash longball up centerline, to McCarty splitting the CBs. #3 Courtney Jones leans left shoulder into her upper back, McCarty goes down at 19m box top -- ball bounces softly to Naeher standing just behind box top. Yellow card on Naeher -- for handling the ball just above the box!! 58' 1-1 Houston fk from 20m arc right. Masar drives it low hard into the wall. Rebound causes many frantic contacts -- all blocked. Finally Houston trip Kyle at her box left, foul.
Houston can not afford to lose another defender unless they pray that Birmingham City can win next week
65' 2-1 Sanderson squares from 22m to O'Reilly unmarked at box top right touch. O'Reilly waits, taps back to 22m, steps away and crosses left foot -- softly to #11 Joanna Lohman cutting open from the left to 8m slightly left. McLeod comes out late or just too far to get there, leaps like a cat but Lohman rises and perfectly heads a soft lob over McLeod. Ball drops behind both as McLeod lands on Lohman, bounces in at the right post. Pancaked, Lohman celebrates from the seated position.
79' 2-1 Houston heads a ball up wide left for sub #6 Rafaelle Souza running onto it at 22m. #3 Courtney Jones shoulder-charges her from the left flank, sends her tumbling. Yellow card on Jones. 81' 2-2 fk wasted, but Houston recover. Souza dances through traffic to box arc top left, somehow pulls in and eludes 4, toe-pokes through them to arc right. #10 Teresa Noyola is wide-open and unattended, steps forth and one-touch right instep ground volley, floats perfectly across mouth, over Naeher's lunge and into the upper left 90.
Courtney Jones is a disaster at center back for Boston. She has given up at least 4 goals in 2 games. Boston needs watch some tape and bench her.
84' 2-2 McCarty vs 1 at box top left, pokes ball into box but gets stopped. Souza comes across to gather, #3 Jones comes to ball without seeing Souza, swings leg -- whiffs on ball, clobbers Souza, who goes down. PK! 85' 2-3 Houston pk, Noyola right instep, drives it low into back left corner, past Naeher's dive.
90+?' (of +?') 2-3 Boston fk, sails long. Now McLeod has a gk, and ... she's taking her time FT 2-3. Dash with their 1st-ever franchise win, fail to match the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Too bad Wambach doesn't play for Boston. I think the guardian held the ball in the last seconds for more than 6 secs. Horrible field but Houston is fun.
You can't have a forward playing center back in the NWSL. This league is to good. Horrible coaching decision.
YES! And now, we have a logjam with seven of the nine teams at or one-off of 3pts, and every team has scored. I think this is going to be a wild season. The reference fails me, what record did TB have that the Dash have failed/avoided?
Houston is going to be a tough team, plays a nice aggressive possession style. No big names up top will always have questions where the next goal will come from but this team effort is going to get them far this season. Thought Erin McCloud played the first goal against her very poorly. Should of held onto the ball but after that she played much better.
They didn't win a single game in their first season. The Bucs actually went 0-26 over their first two seasons before finally winning.
Yeah, that was a total WTF moment from McLeod, but all keepers have those moments every now and then. Harris gave up a similar goal last season.
