Obviously, you guys missed the real question. What stooge is he going to push for office so he has a puppet politician, that is the question. Operate from shadows, read what he said. That is a sad part of America, even when we are told exactly how things are done, we miss it.
Upgrades to service larger ships that will come from Asia once the Panama Canal is widened. The problem is that there is no certainty those ships would come to Miami regardless. Many consider it a fools errand and money that will never be recouped. Why offload there and then send your cargo hundreds, if not thousands of miles by rail and truck, when you could offload in just as capable and more central ports in Texas, Louisiana and along the east coast?
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimemez defend the PortMiami location for Beckham's stadium, he also spoke of this opposition that's trying to derail this project at the port. Without using Norman Braman's name directly, the Mayor spoke about this very powerful member with much influence within the opposition who has some politicians imtimedated and scared. The Miami-Dade Mayor feels there is some underlying motives to this opposition and he wants to know why, especially when all the reasons given for the opposition have been debunked. It's a very interesting interview and it put this stadium debate in better prospective. Listen here: http://wqam.com/2014/04/18/mayor-carlos-gimenez/
John Alschuler, representing Miami Beckham United: "They (Royal Caribbean International) have a sweetheart real estate deal. The county loses $5 million a year because they only pay $12 a foot in rent for a space worth $30... RCI currently uses that space for a parking lot." http://miami.cbslocal.com/video/10072795-facing-south-florida-soccer-in-south-florida/
Two Sides Trade Jabs In Debate Over Major League Soccer Stadium At Port Miami: http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/04/20/4070389/two-sides-trade-jabs-in-debate.html
i guess it's good to see team beckham has their elbows sharpened and arent completely naive about the local politics
John Alschuler is tough. He handled that pretty well. The reasons for not having the stadium there at PortMiami are becoming more and more bogus by the day.
Absolutely, Norman Braman and this new Port Alliance in opposition are 100% bogus and now that they have gone public the spotlight is now shining one them in ways they never expected. Norman Braman has derailed other stadium projects in the past by getting voters to rally against rich owner asking the taxpayers to help fund their stadium projects. Oddly enough Mr. Braman has inserted himself in this debate in opposition when this Beckham backed project doesn't call for the taxpayers of Miami-Dade to help. Mayor Carlos Gimenez is publicly asking what the true motives of Norman Braman and this new Port Alliance, especially when all the concerns expressed was debunked. Royal Caribbean the biggest in opposition of the stadium at the port, isn't paying their full share for being at the port and now a lot of the spotlight has shifted on them in a negative way. The use of the site is up for the vote, and Mr. Braman has a history of intimidating local politicians...this is getting very interesting now that the spotlight is on this bogus port alliance group that also involves Norman Braman.
PortMiami Future Tunnel Development & Master Plan 2035: In this master plan, it does not call for the Southwest corner of the port's future development to be used exclusively for port related use. It calls for development that considers future marine related activities, the new stadium would have a marina with boat dockage space as seen in the recent stadium renderings. This is another argument by this Seaport Alliance group in opposition of the building of the soccer stadium at the Southwest corner at PortMiami.
Fox Soccer weighs in on the potential difficulties awaiting the next stage of growth in MLS (Miami and it's proposed locations, as a great example of this). http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/ins...sion-plans-042214?cmpid=tsmfb:fscom:foxsoccer
Miami Beach seeks public input on soccer stadium proposal http://www.local10.com/news/public-input-town-hall-meeting-for-soccer-stadium/25615744
Town Hall Meeting Wednesday, Traffic Is The Main Concern For Miami Beach Residents Worried About Soccer Stadium: A Major League Soccer stadium at PortMiami would create a traffic nightmare, Miami Beach residents said Wednesday at a town hall meeting. http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/04/23/4076669/traffic-is-main-concern-for-miami.html
"Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine capped Wednesday’s town hall with a tongue-in-cheek proposal to build a stadium between active runways at Miami International Airport, noting that both the seaport and the airport are major economic drivers. He handed out flyers that said: “This proposal is fictitious and clearly as ridiculous, impractical and illogical as putting the MLS stadium in PortMiami.” Although Levine owns a media company that works exclusively with Royal Caribbean cruise line, a main opponent of the port location, the mayor insists his opposition is not business-related" Oh, well, if you say so Mr. Mayor.
lol. The traffic impacts are no worse, and in some cases may be much less problematic, that Heat games are. To suggest any kind of chaos is the height of disingenuousness. But that sounds about right for a Miami politician.
The Seaport Alliance back by it's supporters like Norman Braman, Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine and other notables in opposition have produced an opposition commercial ad now being shown on the air ways in South Florida during the hours that the morning local news are aired. This commercial ad is titled "No To A Stadium At The Port" I did a search on YouTube but wasn't able to find it yet. But the commercial claims a stadium at the port would disrupt cargo traffic and that it would hurt lots of jobs and we just can't afford to do that the commercial says. The funny thing is in the opening of this commercial, they show an image of Marlin's Park and say "they want to give us another stadium" and at the closing of this ad it says get the facts! "No To A Stadium At The Port"! The negative push have officially begun and these commercials are back by some big money people like Norman Braman and the Seaport Alliance that also include Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine...that's why I post a few days ago that this is starting to get very interesting.
Has an MLS team (or soon to be team) ever gotten someone to spend this much money to oppose it? This is pretty amazing to me that they are going to the effort of producing TV commercials. This must mean that Beckham and company are making "waves" in Miami. If they weren't making progress surely the other guys wouldn't be going to this amount of effort.
this pbl isn't about traffic or too many stadiums or any sort of jobs count. it's about who's going to control that real estate. i would bet that if you scratch the surface there's real estate players opposing the sss.
From Mayor Philip Levine's official biography on the City of Miami website: "Currently, Philip is CEO of Royal Media Partners, an exclusive partner of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. From its Alton Road offices, Royal Media Partners handles the creation of all the media for Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Azamara Club Cruises ships sailing in the Caribbean and Alaska." But his opposition to the stadium has nothing to do with his business interests. Absolutely not. No sir. Someone want to bet me on whether Royal Caribbean paid his company - which has ROYAL in the title for Christ's sake - to produce that video? I know we should all be used to the bald faced lies of politicians, but it stil astonishes me.
You've just hit the nail on the head, it's all about real-estate and the control of that location! It's a prime water front location in Miami-Dade county and with this new TV commercial they're trying to deceive the public into thinking that this stadium project is another bad deal that will cost the taxpayers somehow. It's a pretty powerful and damaging ad with imagery of Marlin's Park in the opening of this commercial. Deceiving the public into thinking this soccer stadium project is going to be a job killer and will compromise the local economy is a bold faced lie and many residents will believe this as the truth...Beckham's folks need to hit back hard against these allegations before they become unfounded facts. This stunt has Norman Braman's name written all over it, he plays dirty and I've seen this before with regards to other stadium project that Mr. Braman and his money helped derailed. Braman's strategy is spreading propaganda through using the media and commercials to turn the public opinion in his favor to get what he wants in the end. (This same Braman led a public movement to recall a recent Miami-Dade Mayor and many local politicians are intimidated by this man). In my opinion, the longer this commercial is running during local prime time news broadcast hours, the more damage it can do to Beckham efforts of landing that location. Using the Marlin's Park stadium in this commercial is a very powerful imagery that's a reminder to the local taxpayers and it will stir up the emotions of the residents of Miami-Dade county.
Well, Larry in Utah spent a bit to derail RSL...he owned much of the media there to do it also. Almost worked even though there was a solid plan. Thank the gov's wife I believe for saving RSL. It does mean Becks is making progress...it also means Becks and co better hit back hard and quick or the battle of public perception can be lost quickly.
