I disagree, we know it sucks as a jersey, it sucks as a rag due to poor water retention, and I assume it would simply clog the urinals as a cake. It could be used as a substitute for cooking gas in Ukraine if Putin shuts off the gas, that's all I can think of.
Fire jersey sales top 5 in the league thanks to the blue away shirt. Before the sales were among the league worst, white stripe on red included: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/soccer/chi-fire-unveil-new-look-20140304,0,3987429.story
Again, you're unsuccessfully trying to make the FO look good. From that story you linked: "But Fire officials claimed a refreshed road jersey in recent years drew positive response, turning uniform sales from among the lowest in MLS to one of the league’s top five." There is no statistical back up to this shoddy excuse for journalism (I know Chris M doesn't care but it's journalism 101). It is, as the story says, "a claim," unverifiable.
It also says that the new color combination salutes the city's flag and it's fire department. How so? It also mentioned uniform sales not AWAY jerseys. So this is all speculation at best, I didn't buy the away jersey because I like to wear a jersey to the game and it's not red.
Of course we were in the top 2 or 3 in jersey sales in 08-09. The new road jerseys look good, and probably sold well. I was ok with the away jersey update. Most telling in the article is that they pointed out that the away jersey is the reason for increased sales and not Andy's redesigned home jersey with the Navy stripe.
The road jerseys are nice and should be a contrast from the home. I'd love to know how many people have bought the new jersey. Don't premium season ticket holders get the new jersey for free?
The fact that the article specifically calls out the away jersey as the reason for the increased sales only serves to confirm my suspicions. When I emailed the FO in 2013 asking for a return to the white stripe in 2014, I would always get an answer that said something like "thank you for your passion for the Fire! The players love the current jersey and the navy jersey is a best seller!" I'd email back saying that's all well and good, but I'm talking about the home jersey and I'd get no response. Yippee. Go Fire. I just know they said, "if the navy away jersey sold so well, let's put it on the home too!!"
Here is the best example of the CFD color scheme. Red w/ white stripe. Very dark blue up top and gold! lettering. Ive never seen the gold lettering mentioned but I wouldnt mind.
So the top half and sleeves are just like New England's primary, so next cycle it will be completely like New England's. The only difference is collar (NE's red vs. our NAVY) and adidas logo (NE's white vs. our red). I wonder if New England has to go with their secondary white jersey's because we have two NAVY jersey's. #HauptmanOut
In honor of all the draws / ties we've had this season I'll be wearing one of these today to the game: See some of you there...
I loved when both teams walked out of the tunnel today... both wearing the EXACT same warmup jacket! Black/red. What a joke!
We We've become New England. Not just the same jersey's, but the same kind of owner and same kind of team on the field. #HauptmanOut I hope you like the team you put together.....
Here's an idea for the front office, instead of trying to look like a city of Chicago fire truck or a can of oatmeal, we just look like the Chicago Fire soccer team? It's a novel idea. You know, unique branding, something timeless.
