Wonder what took them so long, knowing that they fired their last coach at the end of the season.

It took the AD a long time to find the scrap of paper he had Gyau's name written down on and then call him and beg him to take the job.

Before he coached at Loyola, Mettrick coached at Mount St. Mary's, which is just down the road (and across the state line) from Gettysburg so maybe he liked living up there or had a lot of contacts or what not.

Or maybe he just didn't want to be unemployed.

Mettrick's family is rooted in Baltimore and Gettysburg is a good job that is fairly commutable from B'more

I feel sorry for Philip. A new coach with the lack of support that he's going to get from Howard - it's going to be tough. If given the resources, Philip could make a good run - but I doubt he'll get the $$$ and administrative support to be successful.

He's not going to be alone in his lack of resources. Athletics on a whole are underfunded at, not only Howard, but the HBC's. Conference realignment and BCS has left a lot of schools behind, and HBC's have been hit hard. In the end, it's not the NCAA with the biggest impact, it's simply enrollment. Sadly, the only institutions where attendance is on the rise in this country for Black males are penitentuaries.

Solid squad if they had a 4 vs. 4 coaching game... Time will tell if it will work in the coaching part.

Another AD falls for the accent.

True story: I have neighbors whose kids are the same age as mine; over spring break they signed their children up for a soccer camp and were so proud because it was called the "British Soccer Camp" and thought because it was "British" it was somehow superior.

This doesn't mean Chris Little isn't a good coach but it seems many in this country still think being "British" or even being "foreign" makes one more qualified than us natives to coach the game.

The NC Fusion U18s have gone from a 16-7 record under Marc Nicholls two years ago to 9-18 record under Little this year.

Must be one hell of an accent.

Ill say it here, it will be three years and he will be exposed? Great coach, Alumni, and Club Coach. Recruiting is the BIG Factor that will make the true difference? Three years will tell?
