I'm not gonna get into a debate on who drafted who....I just know there are some very good players here right now. It's the disorganization on the pitch that concerns me the most. Is it square pegs and round holes or is it down to new players gelling with each other? Managers should be judged on the product on the field just as much on judging talent....I think the talent is here for a very good MLS team, the rest is up to Hack.
John Hackworth's career MLS record with the Union as of April 13, 2014 (63 games, 81 points): Year: W - L - T (PPG) - GF/GA 2012: 8 - 11 - 4 (1.22) - 29/31 2013: 12 - 12 - 10 (1.39) - 42/44 2014: 1 - 1 - 4 (1.17) - 8/8 Total: 21 wins, 24 losses, 18 draws (1.29) - 79/83 This team needs a result on the road at Red Bull Arena.
To be honest, I think this team could get trashed on by a struggling NY side, or blow them out off the water. I cannot predict what team shows up. Is it first half RSL/first half Crew? or PTFC (minus stoppage time)/ Revs?
We get half wins and half losses, or as Euro snobs call them, "draws". We win a half, we forget how to play soccerball for a half. 1-1 draw.
His seat has to be getting awfully warm after giving PCNJ its first win of the year. Better players, worse results.
I'm ok with that as long as we don't replace him with someone on this coaching staff. If we get rid of Hack, we need an overhaul.
If Hack gets fired the coaching options for the rest of the year (going off of the technical staff page) are Rob Vartughian, Jim Burke or Mike Sorber out of the three of those I would pick Sorber to finish the season. You do NOT remove the interim tag from Sorber unless the team wins a trophy or shows MASSIVE improvement by the end of the season. If Sorber isn't the guy to lead the team then you go out and you actually do a coaching search.
The fact we were a man up and a goal down and Hack expected a win or draw with a standard formation with 10 minutes left says it all for me.....he's not a good manager. He's Forrest Gumping his way thru this soccer thing!
This time last season we had 11 points vs 7 now. It's interesting his results are worse now that he has his players than when he was dealing with the salary cap mess.
Everyone is aware that the subs were made PRIOR to being up a man, and while being 2-0 behind, right? With the team struggling in the final third all match, did anyone realistically feel that the Union were going to comeback at that point? There is another match Saturday....... Maidana and Leo would be nice to have for at least part of that match. If he hadn't subbed out those players, and we go on to lose still, and they are dog tired on Saturday everyone would call for Hack's head (not that many haven't been already) for not RESTING or SUBSTITUTING them from the NY match.....
While that was the case, it makes the double sub all the more head scratching. In one moment he used the last of his subs, one of whom is 100% a defensive sub (Lahoud) in a match he was losing by 2 goals. I get that we didn't have a very deep bench, offensively, but still, why waste the final sub then and there, rather than holding it a few more minutes on the off-chance they did score (which they did). It's not like he hasn't waited until the last 10 minutes for a sub before.
Does anyone else get the feeling Hack is losing or has lost the locker room? I feel the Jack trade was personal rather than the party line that they wanted Wenger that bad. The effort doesn't seem to be there among some of the players. And there are times the body language on the field looks like discontent among the players. Maybe I'm projecting because I want him gone, but something stinks.
I'm not saying that I agree with Hack, but here was his thinking: The second and third subs were not intended to be double subs. Hoppenot was at the scorer's table for quite a while ready to come in and there were no stoppages of play. Bringing in Lahoud was meant as an offensive sub because it allowed both Nogueira and Edu to push higher. I was seated in the front row directly behind Hack for the entire game. Very interesting perspective because it allowed me to overhear all of his conversations with players and with the ref ("Ricardo. Ricardo! RICARDO!!! C'mon man!"). Photo or it didn't happen you say?
Once NY scored the first goal, we went from playing soccer to, honestly I don't even know what I was watching. Pre NY Goal Average to good passing Good Off ball movement Shots on goal Okay defense Movement from midfield to wings, in and out up the field MacMath/Okugo commanding team Post NY Goal 1 Panic Crazy running/chasing Long loft ball (Union 2013) Stretched Defense Post NY Goal 2 Defeat Sulking heads down WALKING (not even jogging) One good attack leading to PK All three sections are on the manager. Finishing isn't on the manager, however keeping the team focused is Hacks job. We needed to score, we didn't, it happens, its a game. My issues is post goals, GET YOUR TEAM TOGETHER. I honestly think we would have equalized if we kept playing our game and stayed calm even though the score was 1-0 NY rather than 0-0.
I think it's time for this Hoppenot 70 min. sub thing to just stop! It's a joke anymore....and every Union fan knows its gonna happen no matter what the score is! As far as overhearing his conversations, you only gave us him yelling at the Ref??? More details please!
